I'm after a new point 'n shoot that satisfies (or comes closest to satisfying, as it is a challenging list) the following requirements:
- small, light and pocketable
- strong and durable
- at least 8 mega-pixels
- uses CF cards (hey, I want to be able to reuse my DSLR cards)
- has decent low-light movie support (i.e. indoors)
- allows continous movie recording until card is full
What do you guys suggest? |

CF card support is a VERY limiting factor.

only the Nikon Coolpix 8400
has
8mp
CF card
& is compact
CF card is indead a limiting request there is a few more cameras with CF but at less than 8mp Canon PowerShot S500 is one at 5mp the rest are under 5mp
Check out here
I havent had a compact so I dont know personaly |

It is; drat it. I wonder why. It's not essential, but would be jolly nice. |

| I just got the Canon G7. It fits all of your requirements except CF support. I too had all CF cards, but I got a 2GB SD card for about $25 when I bought it. |

Size.
Compared to the competition, CF is physically huge. When the engineers are designing cameras, it takes up valuable space inside the camera that could be used to add features. |

you see, if a camera has to be ultra-compact (pocketable) then the engineers had to save as much space as possible, and we all know how fat and big CF cards are. Besides, memory cards have gone a long way, and SD cards seem to be THE choice now with digicams) are really cheap. So, if you'd drop the requirement on "uses CF cards" then you choices just went from ZERO (discontinued models doesn't count) to oh-hell-which-should-i-choose? ;) i'd recommend the f31fd but it has only 6mp on the sensor. |
