Sure, one week have this challenge and have the two exclusive challenges for members only. |

Wish it were that way all the time myself. |

don't really see any benefits of separating members and non-members.
but, sounds like fun though, but only if they have a members-only challenge running concurrently (besides the usual one) both with the same challenge topic/rules!

I don't think excluding paying members from challenges is a good way to attract more members. |

Agree. The point of being a member is the perks. No perk if members are excluded from challenges.
While I understand everyone not being able to pay, DPC is pretty cheap and a really great place to drop the dough for those extra members' perks.

True, true. I was a member for a year, but just thought as a registered user NOW, it might be fun to just to mix things up a bit....
Thanks for the comments, tho.
Anyone else??

that would be sweet
i mean, if you run the same one for member and non-members
then they really would not be missing out |

I wonder whom would suffer when it came to votes and comments? |

It would be even sweeter if you just coughed up the $25 and become a member. After all, you users are enjoying the site, right? I think that we have grown enough that the challenges are becoming almost unmanageable from a voting standpoint. Perhaps its time for registered users to be given a 90 day period to 'try out' the site. After that 90 days, either foot the $25 or you no longer get to enter. Non-paying members add cost to the site, thus upgrades are slower to come to us paying members. Maybe if we go this route, we could FINALLY get the allowed resolution changed to 720 px. It would sure free up a lot of server space.
There, that's what I think.

How about, registered users only challenge, but only paid members allowed to vote... would be VERY interesting. |

Or non paying members are allowed to enter two Open Challenges every four weeks. That way the numbers are reduced and people are encouraged to join as a full member! |

I am not agree, everyone before become member is only user. If you reduce the possibility of participate the peoples could be encouraged to go out of DPC. |

Either way you look at it, non-paying members are sitting back and reaping the benefit of what we as members pay for. Even more, I think that the non-paying members make it worse for us that do pay by constantly clogging up the challenges. I do my best to vote on every challenge, and every entry, but with so many in each challenge, its difficult. This also reduces the chances that you'll get a worthwhile assessment of you image, as well as place higher. On the front page right now, from all 3 challenges, there are 4 non-member entries in the top 10, with one somehow in the member's challenge. 4 out of 30 is 13%, and I am sure that the percentage is much more substantial overall. Even with 13% less entries, that would drop 68 images off and out of the way of voting and commenting. I say limit what non-payers can enter somehow. I like my 90 day idea, but Judi's 50% each month would also help a ton.

How do we reconcile that with Drew and Langdon's staement, made at the time that membership was introduced, that all features that were free at that time would remain free?

Times and situations change. I have seen alot of sites that were free in the beginning, become a paying site. This site could be no different. I like the ideas that have been put forth in this thread. There are so many entering and so few voting. I can't vote as much as I use to since there are so many entries. Times are a changin!
edit: bad grammer...need more coffee

I don't see the point in this. Wouldn't it just give you better odds?
Where's the challenge there? I know I paid to compete in more challenges. |
