I really think I've reached the point where this site is doing more damage than good for me. I am definitely sitting out the next several challenges after garden (i've already submitted something there). It does me no good to stretch and try new things on a site that focuses almost completely on textbook definitions when it comes to voting.
This is becoming a rant, so I'll quit. I really am interested in the voters' definitions of 1, so please do respond.

I'm new to entering challenges on here (or anywhere else) but I've learnt a lot since my first submission. I'll share with you what I have learnt from using this site.
I don't care whether or not I receive 100 1's or 100 10's for a submission. All I care about are the comments. You have to remember that the voters on this site are not entirely dedicated photographers like yourself, they can be anyone who has internet access. So why take offence to Joe Blo who might have accidentally found this site whilst searching for pictures of a particular interest and then decided to have a go at voting. I bet if you showed this same voter a famous Van Gough artwork he would mark it a 1 cos he probably didn't see enough purple color thus ignoring all the other aspects.
When I receive comments that I don't agree with, the first thing I do is look up the users profile and if he/she is new with a low average score then I don't take it to heart but still appreciate it nonetheless. You wouldn't enrol in a photography school where the teacher knows less about photography than yourself....you would never learn anything new. Same goes for this site. However, all comments both negative and positive should be encouraged and not discouraged as IMO are the most important part to this site. Should a voter that I respect and look up to, leaves a negative comment about my submission then I would take notice, re-evaluate and learn from it. A positive comment from the same voter just tells me that I'm doing the right thing....it's not used for boasting purposes.
Just take what you think is useful from this site and discard the rest, even this long thesis of a spiel for that matter:) After all this is just MY opinion.
