And now I know I will never do that type of photography again. I am going to leave it to those of you with large amounts of patience and talent.

This is what I looked like at the end.

They are way harder than I thought that is for sure. Kudos to those of you who shoot weddings. I don't know that I am cool enough for that gig. It is 25 kinds of trouble.

That looks just like your 'before' photo.

I hate large families - especially when they have three or four screaming children. The wedding shoots aren't as bad as portrait sessions, IMO, because you get that whole group up there at the wedding and people are like "Oh who cares if they're screaming, let's just take the damn picture already." Family sessions they want to fiddle around and bribe the kids and the kids don't want any of it.

But I do them anyway, because I want that money :)

I'm going to an extended family reunion in a couple weeks, down in Oklahoma. As the "only guy with a camera," I've been volunteered to take pictures of each of the family units. Last time (a couple years ago) getting the groups together wasn't so bad, but it was about 99F, and both the available indoor and outdoor lighting were horrendous.

Good luck with that. You will have a photo like mine soon.

On the other hand... if you shoot a large family, it can all be over in an hour and you can sell lots of prints. It's a LOT EASIER than shooting a wedding.

I did a family portrait with 75 people in it and sold 35 11x14's of a single image. I could use a lot more gigs of that sort! :-)

Yup, pain in the arse. And then if you shoot the individual families too, even more work (but more $$$). On this one I did, shortly after the shoot one of the men in the family was dumped by his fiance who was in the photo. The family asked if I could remove her in Photoshop, and she was right in the middle, so I had to move 3 people and a couple arms around from other photos so there wasn't a big hole where she was. Lots of head-chopping there.

I hope you charged them for that retouching time :)

Yup. They really wanted her out of there, so it must not have been a pretty break-up.

I've been asked by a neighbor/close friend to shoot her 6 kids, ranging in age from 7 to 18, to create a Father's Day gift for their dad. They are good kids, and they know me well, so I'm hoping that they'll cooperate more than usual for me.

I told her I would do it, and she'll pay me (though I haven't figured out yet what to charge her), but mostly I'm worried that if I don't like my results I'll have to see it hanging on her wall every time I go over. :p

And WHY would you want to do that to US? ;-)
