Guys, anyone got any inspiration for double take?
I thought playing with personification/objectification would be fun, but from there I'm a bit stuck for ideas. |

I need an opinion on which image to submit to Free Study. If you promise not to vote on mine, and want to help, please PM me quick.

A man on his knees and a dog standing.
A wave and a particle.
A boy who has just eaten ice cream and a boy who has just killed a bird.
A dump truck and a trump duck.
The eye of a giant and a red balloon.
meyers, feel free to pm me... |

Oh, I'd love to get a picture of a man on his knees, collared, with a dog standing and holding onto the leash. Just for the surreal value of it. |

I'm in for Free Study.......not truly thrilled, which probably means I'll get REALLY slammed......
Sigh....
I did go and get some more outstanding shots for Desolation Industries that I'll post, but nothing that grabbed me for a FS entry.....
Here's one....
And one last one.....goin' to bed soon....
If you would care to comment, I'd love the input.

Take it as some schmuck who likes to vote low and happened to be your first vote. Going to bed is a good idea - just wait to see how it's doing in the morning. And remember, even ribbon-winning shots get 2 votes, including both 1st and 2nd in Shapes.

Will Raish make a special prize for beating Larus twice in one week? Not to toot my own horn too much, but I got him in selective desat, too :-) |

Update: Bad news on the work front. The plan my boss and I conjured up at work won't take me off "the list" so I'm still subject to short-term notice of a 365 day tour to a place where it's warm. The one I'm up for first is one I don't think I have a high probability of success in, as it requires living and working with a unit made up of folks whose culture make it difficult to have an authority figure who is female. There's another possibility that's in a safer (if there is such a thing) location in that very warm place, but also a year long, which means putting all my stuff in storage, shipping the cats to a relative somewhere who can take them, and then having to find a place to live here when I get back again. Sadly, I think my option is to retire. The only catch will be whether I can get in another year here or whether they'll make me get out within 90 days. Either way, it's a mess. I'm sure there's a silver lining, and I'm diligently looking for it! |

That's terrible, Deb.
Forced retirement... on the bright side, it seems they have the government running as efficiently as a corporation! |

Deb - do you not want to retire because you need to work or because you would lose some major benefits? What would happen if you took the job, and moved, found you did not like it - could you retire then? Lots of interesting choices coming your way. Maybe you should start your own consulting firm. ;) Best of luck to you!

Well I was looking at her comment about being forced out within 90 days. So I was thinking she could take the job, wait it out a bit, and then stick it to them - ha!

Uh, I think once you get to the someplace warm, you don't get to leave until the end of the designated time period. It's like the Hotel California without the Eagles.
The forced retirement is a downer because I really, really like living here. Housing is an allowance I get now that will disappear, and it ain't cheap. To really spice things up, I just rented my house in Texas. You'd think I'd have better karma than this, wouldn't you? |

Well the no leaving from the warm place (sounds like hell, hmmm) is scary. Sorry to hear that. Sending some positive thoughts your way for a better solution!

No chance of a job at another company that will help you stay in Germany? |

The one thing I'm really enjoying about Germany is the pace of life here. The Germans are not at all lazy, they simply have their priorities straight. There's not the GO GO GO GO mentality so prevalent in the US. There's time to enjoy life, see things, go places, take walks. The simple stuff. Nothing is open on Sunday and I think that's the neatest thing in the world. You have the day free to visit, read, shoot pictures, whatever. Sure it makes Saturdays hectic since you have to get all your errands done that day, but Sundays make up for it.
And I just rented out my house in Texas in March for a one year lease...
Can you say "screwed"? I'd say bad words but it's a family board. Just know that I'm saying them aloud at home. My neighbors don't speak English. :-) |

More positive thoughts coming your way, Deb, as many as I have (I don't need them half as much as you do right now). If there's any way I can help, please let me know (including helping arrange beastie shipping, which I have done before and know a bit about; I would offer to take them, but coming from where you are to where I am, they'd be subject to quarantine, and that's ain't right for a loved beastie).
Here's hoping things turn around, and yes, you should have quite a bit of karma saved up - maybe it's gotten lost in your house; have you checked under the sofa cushions?
Best,
Rob |

Heh! I checked, but there's only cat hair. Didn't even find any spare change! :-) |
