Gerber daisies! Beautiful :) I planted 4 azalea plants in my yard & 2 gardenia shrubs. I haven't watered them in years & most of them are dead but this year one of the azalea plants bloomed..it was so pretty. It is dead again.
Originally posted by Maverick: This one was actually doing really well. Between my cat and I we managed to kill some Gerber daisies, but the rest of my plants have been ok. |

haha. Trust me, if those are eggs of any kind or even possibly eggs - you don't want to chance it.
Originally posted by gi_joe05: I don't think there is any need to trash it, thats a little harsh. It looks like a beautiful plant. just put it outside and see what happens. if it is an empty shell it's most likely fertilizer and if one has stuff in it it may just not be an empty shell of fertilizer yet.
give the plant a chance... |

even if it's outside? they are just insects...it's not like it's some sort of doomsday device.
if that is what it even is

I'm currently in an apartment, so planting outside wouldn't work. Its biodegradeable at least.

Alot of plant fertilizers do have liquid inside of them.. My potting soil has white spheres filled with clear gel in them.. But you'd know the difference right away..
If you spray it with something, it will kill the eggs, but you really have to keep your cat away from it because it could kill him too or make him very sick.
It does look like a really pretty plant.. |

Well, if it had to be done, it had to be done. You never know. It could have been some sort of romanian termite..
You never know.
Well.. There will be more photogenic plants eventually.. Atleast the eggs were in a pot and not in your fridge or something..

Don't get rid of the plant.... Just dig up carefully, shake and wash away all the dirt from the base of this plant, and then re plant it in a very good potting mix for hibiscus.....
I feel they are definately insect eggs of some kind, and then just dispose of the soil and eggs around the plant..... |

I don't blame you for tossing it out.
I had something similar happen to me once. When I was in college, I bought a Hawaiian Schefflera plant from Wal-Mart. When it started to lose all of its leaves, I dug down into the soil (thinking it needed to be repotted) and found some type of rootworms! I'll never forget the sight of those larvae (seemed like hundreds of them) jumping around on the hot pavement when I threw that plant into the back alley behind my apartment. I never ever bought another Schefflera after that. |

so I'm sitting in my dark room, reading this thread and this big flying bug comes out of nowhere and lands on my brightly lit monitor. If I didn't have the heeby-jeebies before by looking at those creepy alien eggs, I sure as hell have them now. Ewwwww......
Poor plant, may it rest in peace. :( |

First thing I thought of reading that was when a guy in the shop was removing a steering wheel with an air bag in it, being very skeered and cautious, and "someone" popping a paper bag back behind him out of sight.
Think he messed his skivvies....

Heh. One of my dogs Jenna is a bomb sniffer, and my dad told me that one day he was bringing her around the Cass Lake highschool and just as she stuck her nose near a gym locker, some kid shot a capgun in the showers and he nearly pissed himself.
I think the kid got in trouble..
I probably would've done something like that..
