There have been threads about interactive software similar to this that were in development, but now Microsoft is ready to launch "Surface" this November. It'll be too pricey for consumers for the next couple of years, but will be available in stores, hotels, and the like. It looks cool.
Microsoft surface.
Star article about it. |

Looks pretty slick.
Pretty quick turnaround from the initial press Adobe TED Presentation in '06 to a commercial app.
Can't wait to see it in person, this really looks like a huge leap in human computer interaction.

As soon as I saw the Microsoft "Surface" site, I thought of the TED presentation from Jeff Han. They had to have been working with him. He does say, *right* at the beginning of his presentation, that it's "just ready to come out of the lab" which I take to mean that he was ready to discuss commercialization. It's possible he was talking with Microsoft, perhaps long before the TED presentation.
As a matter of fact, I highly doubt that his presentation would have been made public if he had not secured a path to commercialization. |

Yup Bill never checks with me on anything anymore... He was here in Carlsbad yesterday showing the thing and never asked if I wanted to play with it. :(

Yeah. It seems Surface has been in development since 2001, if you look at the "Origins" link on the bottom, and that "Surface" had been the monikor since 2004. |
