So I'm expecting a birthday check in the not too distant future... And I'm thinking I get to buy a new lens.
Choices:
Pentax 50-200/4.0-5.6 ED; about $250, for pics of birds, sailboats, and street photography.
Pentax 50/1.4; about $200, for portraits, flowers, and concerts/indoor/low light.
Pentax 10-17/3.5-4.5; about $300 after rebate, for pictures of fishes eyes. Fun, but probably less broadly useful than the others.
Other thoughts would be to get something with macro capability.
Opinions? Competing ideas? |

Seriously - the 50mm is a must and in f/1.4 flavor adds a whole new spectrum for low-light photography as well as creativity with depth of field.
<--view is actual pixel crop of larger image
<--at minimum focusing distance, wide open at f/1.4
<--camera in same place, same point of focus, at f/8.0
<--depth of field is very narrow at minimal distances, but fun to get creative with.

| The 50/1.4 is one of the few lenses out there that with repeated use WILL actually make you a better photographer. |
