Well on holiday weekends you never know what your going to find. I took a freelance job today with an accident with rescue involving a van and a train. This is truly a matter of older folks who probably shouldnt be driving. The driver told the police that she was pushing the brake as hard as she could but it wouldnt stop, BTW she was pushing the gas. The vehicle was traveling down a hill with a stop sign at the end, it hit a small patch of grass climbed an embankment and then "dukes of hazards style" ended up on a train that was parked. Both occupants will be very sore, but will make it thanks to being restrained. Pics. Afterwards I took some shots that the local fire dept will be using for training with the supports they held the van up with. This was their first use since getting them in March. BTW first time I've been that close to a air-ambulance that landed on-scene.

The last shot is the best. They got some serious air! |

That must of been some wild ride.
The second last pic there is crazy. Everyone is just standing around and the lady is tstill in the car peeking her head out with her hand on the exteriour door handle. |

Strangeghost they did get some serious air, they cleared the first set of tracks and landed on the second set that are down lower then the first set you can see.
KelvinC first thing when on scene of an accident is to stabalize the scene so to not put anyone in danger. Thats what the supports and straps were put in for. Have to make sure that nothing moves while trying to rescue and take anyone else out.
This is certainly not the sort of thing thats normal to see in our small town.

Great pics Matt, glad to see that she didn't hurt anyone else and I agree if she had the vertical peddle mixed with the horizontal peddle then her license should most likely be taken away permanently.
We have that problem here with all the baby boomers getting in to their golden years. There's an outcry to lower the speed on a major road here and all the accidents are being blamed on speed but if they look closely a lot of the accidents are involving people 70 and 80 plus years that most likely shouldn't be driving in the first place but thats another story. Sorry for the hijack/rant.
GREAT PHOTOS :)

Good pics.
It's a good thing that they hit the train car exactly where they did, or they could have gone right under or into the car hauler beyond. That must have been an extreme "high pucker factor" moment for them. Did you happen to witness this event as it happened?
Glad everyone is going to be all right except for some bruises and serious shake up.

Cam well I guess old is a relative term, even though I'm not a spring chicken anymore that wasnt my term, its what EVERYONE on the scene used.
asimchoudhri that parking should get you a ticket. :D
I didnt see this event happen, I have a police scanner that I use to respond to calls to cover news for the newspaper. I was on the scene as the first firetruck arrived and the first ambulance was on the scene already. And I'm sure pucker mode was extreme!

wow! Wonder what their handicap license plate is for (I know it could be anything or her hubby).
I know it is hard for older people to give up their "freedom" but sometimes they just need to stop (for their own and others safety).
I am totally scared cause my mom and dad love their RV and the travel they do but with my dad rounding 76 years old this year and mom not far behind, I get worried everytime they plan a trip. Granted they are both excellent drivers and know their limits but I know reaction times and such decrease, plus you can't always plan on the other driver. They have even started my dad on alzheimer's meds cause they think it may be starting in. I'm already worried about their trip they are planning this fall cause they are headed out to D.C. and around some other states. They take their time and stop everywhere so I guess they will be ok but still waiting for that phone call. :(
Glad these people made it ok, it could have been so much more worse.
btw...great captures! |
