i'm shooting in adobe RBG, and using a calibrated monitor profile ( spyder2 express ). when i open a recently downloaded file, i choose ' use embedded profile ', and when i am going to save for PC use i convert the file to sRGB before saving.
my question is, what profile should i use with the printer? the monitors profile ( fromt he spyder2 ), the adobe RBG profile ( embedded from the camera ), or let photoshop handle colors, etc...
i'm assuming using the embedded profile for editing is ideal, but am not sure what to do when i want to print the file.
i'm using an epson 785epx printer at the moment, if that helps any.

With the printer you should be using the profile for the inks and paper being used.
When in the print with preview window choose 'let photoshop determine colours' and the printer profile appropriate to the inks and paper. Also, remember to turn off colour management in the printer driver. |

You need to have a printer profile for every type of paper and printer combination you plan to use.
If you have only one printer then you just need a profile for each type of paper you plan to use with it. The ideal is to have a custom made profile specific not just to the model of printer you have, but to YOUR printer specifically. There are people that make a living doing that.
If you want to see on your monitor what it SHOULD look like when printed then you select the printer/paper profile in "proof setup" then make further adjustments if necessary, preferable in separate printer specific layers. Then you select the correct printer/paper paper profile when sending it to the printer.

so the profiles for the paper are downloadable then?
i'm using epson inks - so i'd think the printer would be calibrated to those by default... i also generally use epson papers. does this mean the printers color management should profile correctly... ?
and if that's the case - how do i load those profiles into photoshop for soft proofing?
edit: BTW - thanks...

| I haven't done this in a while but I think the profiles can be loaded from the proof setup window. |
