I think there is enough alarmists in the world, none needed here please.

As far as WHY I need to know, you will just have to stay tuned.

You mean a kitchen hot plate? surely natural gas suffices as a heat source, and not a specialised compound?

call me paranoid but i wrote my dissertation on terrorist uses of the internet and knowledge acquisition was pretty high on the agenda. So i was just surprised that no-one questioned why...

ETA - and surely if you are freezing it, it cant be easily used as a heat source, because the freezing point is below room temperature and thus anything like a STERNO is out of the question...

Believe me he is no terrorist. Just a movie guy with time on his hands. This thread is killing me (just a joke). :)

That isnt the point - i'm sure it is completely innocent. It is just the fact that:

1. i'm sure he has better sources than a photo forum
2. no-one asked why and freely gave information
3. someone is running around with poison
4. the murderer next door "always seemed like such a nice guy"

The internet scares me sometimes.

Just so that we are clear, kid, my reputation here might be "hard headed", "old fashioned schooling,(NO FUZZY MATH)", "pro-American", and maybe even "anti- taxes", but, my reputation here has always had the highest integrity.

The reason no one asked why is because members here got to know me first before asking "what the F*%# does he need all that for".

There has never been an " Oh my gosh" attitude with my threads, posts, or to that matter my images.

So, maybe next time before saying the sky is falling, get to know someone. Just because they wear a turbin, or have a feather in their hair does not make them a 'terrorist'. Just because I was interested in a little chemistry doesn't make me a terrorist. I am putting forethought to imagery before I execute.

And one other thing KID. Natural gas is more dangerous than Propane. In my business, propane is more convenient to get, use, and execute in film as an efx.

Plus, what I want with DEG is 'none-ya' until I pull back the drapes for all to be in shock and awe.

So you slate me and belittle me for being cautious over a subject which is potentially a very dangerous one...

I'm afraid that such a response is more childish than the "kid" you make me out to be. Sorry to draw the terrorist comparison as apparently being cautious isnt part of public consciousness in terms of such a threat...

ETA - and my reference to "natural gas" maybe should have been just "gas" but then we might have got into a dispute over "petrol" and "gas" as BrE and AmE usage - propane has nothing to do with it as it isnt DEG - so i have no idea why you decided you had to tell me that propane was better to use than "natural gas"

PMing keeps the belittling at bay, it also is a great way to communicate before posting on a thread.

edit - cant be bothered... i'm only pursuing a theoretical point here, i'm fairly sure you are not a terrorist (even tho i never said you were) and you are taking something for the science challenge. Have fun taking the shot and i do hope it does "wow" the voters after all this hassle you seem to be taking.

Another way to use ice to get to that low of a temperature.... you can add rock salt to ice, and it drops it down. Sometimes to -13F. You could try that too. I imagine it'd be much cheaper than dry ice.
