I am going crazy here.... I really like the Nikon AF Nikkor 18-135mm f/3.5- 5.6G ED DX, but after reading reviews... it says the lens isn't that great. People have said about vignetting around the edges when used at 18mm and that there is color halos on the outsides with all shots. Also, people have complained about the motor dying.
Can those of you who have this lens give me some info on it? I'm really lost.

Never had it, but I loved my Tamron 24-135 before I dropped it, and it's almost as sharp as the vaunted 28-75/2.8. It's set up for 35mm, so it should not have any noticeable vignetting. Is the 18-135 APS-C specific?
Edit, nevermind, it's DX, only 1.5 crop.

| And it looks like Tamron has a $100 MIR going on that right now. |

Yeah B&H has a little thing saying,
"DX lenses are NOT recommended for use with 35mm or APS SLR cameras"
So I am guessing I need to find another lens like that in that price range. I have no idea which one is even comparable.

It's the kit lens with my D80, and I do get the vignetting. You can see it a bit here:

You mean no f/2.8? Nothing in this range has a large aperture.
..
The Tammy I mentioned, and the Nikon 24-120 are probably closest. The Nikon is a VR lens, which puts a premium on the price. Both of these are way ahead on sharpness, vignetting, and construction from the 18-135.
