Sorry to do this, but I've found several of these spiders in my condo in the last couple of months, mostly on the windows, but this one was crawling across a wall. They have relatively large pincer-looking things on the front. I know a lot of people on this site love spiders, but I'm scared of them and want to know what I'm up against. This one looks bigger than the others I've seen (this one was about 2 cm long) and I'm wondering whether they were babies and all getting bigger and whether they roam the house or stay close to a web, etc. I've looked online, but can't ID it.
Thank you in advance if you can help me!
Edit to add: I'm in Chicago.

I'm not really sure what kind of spider they are but here in Vt. they are everywhere. They don't bother me at all cause they seem to really help in keeping down the bug population.

I did a google for jumping spiders because that's what I THINK it is and there was a photo that looked pretty close to what you have there. Not sure and don't know a lot about them but, from what I remember someone telling me once... they are harmless.
JUMPING SPIDERS pounce on their prey! They can jump over 40 times the length of their bodies--which is like a 6-foot tall long-jumper jumping 240 feet!
Hope this link works for you |

Does your spider look anything like this I think its a jumping spider but you need to get a bit closer of a photo of it to be sure.

I think you're right... it seems to be a salticus scenicus jumping spider (see a picture here).
They're not dangerous and they're pretty small (in fact, it seems the ones I've been seeing are the right size and the one I saw today was unusually big). Alright I'll grudgingly let them live in the windows.
To those of you who suggested I get closer... I barely got close enough to take the picture I did. I really hate spiders.
