I second Kelly's suggestion - very good name for the people who keep the bottom from falling out. See, in my way of thinking, being at the bottom is a good thing - someone has to provide the support for the rest of the structure, right? |

At one point, we agreed not to highlight the bottom scorers - I believe we should continue this. If someone wants to volunteer that information OK, but we don't need to do this for them.

You're talking about the individual people, right? Not the team/group? |

Woohoo, I just finished my degree :D
Final bit of assessed work over and done with, and miraculously, I'm still almost sane. |

Nah, I don't think that's needed. |
But may I request please that this be what we call the last place in the Team Suck challenge results?
I've wanted a cool name for it and I think this works nicely! |
How about the Grand Suckage award? - kinda like Grand Poobah... |

Possibly someone could politely PM the bottom scorer and at that point give them a choice to accept or decline the recognition. The individual people themselves may not realize they are the bottom scorer, and so not volunteer the information for that reason. |

Ahem. Please note dear Deb's scores on her last two challenges, BOTH over 6.5! And while I can't share the content of her current member and open challenges, I can tell you that they are both quite wonderful, creative and interesting, and in my mind reflect her own unique style. Please also note that my entry for culture ended in the 4's and I loved it. Yes, it is fun to see good scores, especially when they are way outside a personal norm. But it is also important to remember that DPC is just one contest and certainly not the arbiter of what's "good" and what's not.
And purpleflutterby13 congrats on that degree!!! |

Thanks, Catherine, and I'm quite proud to report that my unique style, while appreciated by a few here and there, does indeed generally suck as far as DPC scoring goes and I'm back on track with my current entries.
Edit - Desat is actually doing quite well in the mid-5s last I looked with some excellent comments and one fav.

congratulations indeed!
i like either the grand sackage, or the epitome of suck. yeah, the person should have the choice to celebrate their suckage, but we all realise that being the epitome of suck does not mean having a poor image. it's just that no one else got it.

There is enough "you are worse than we" going on throughout dpchallenge. Do we really need to support and celebrate that here? |

I agree with Mary on this. If someone chooses to proudly out their own brown, great, but I don't think we should point it out. |

That's a fair point. I was making my suggestion from the point of view that the TS ethos does seem to try to see the humor in voting results by proclaiming "suckage", to underscore how serious this stuff really *isn't* (the votes I mean) to what makes an image "good". I only meant it in that spirit, and certainly I agree that those who don't want to be outed should have what they want. That's why I suggested if we had such a recognition, we make it optional.
To be honest I don't see why the same objection can't be made about the OOBIE - since a lot of OOBIE winners end up at the bottom of the voting pile. Don't get me wrong - I do like the idea of the OOBIE - but where do we draw the line for drawing attention to low-vote-getters?
Not trying to put anyone on the spot here - I'm just putting the question out for general discussion. :)

I didn't mean my comment to degrade the Team Suck Brown Ribbon entry; there's usually some good natured "my shot is more misunderstood" ribbing in the thread. I won't identify the lowest scoring image in my challenge results posts.

Wow, it's so quiet here today.. Tonight I'm off to Califonia for FAnime, and if I get any half decent pictures I'll share them in my portfolio. My friend assures me the hotel will have internet access, and seemed personally offended, as if I had kicked his mom!, that I had any doubts about getting online. Sunday's results might not go up right at the rollover, but they'll be up within an hour or so. I'll take any disappointment as a compliment to my normal punctuality :P

Couple things from my fifty cent opinion thoughts....
One....EPITOME is spelled with an "E" at the end....8>)
Two....the word as seen in the definition below, is generally a positive application, so that's in keeping with a tongue-in-cheek "Epitome of Suckage".
"A person or thing that is typical of or possesses to a high degree the features of a whole class: He is the epitome of goodness."
That would indicate to me that anyone acquiring the honor could be considered as a typical OOBIE kind of person as far as being totally misunderstood.
So......you could always just check first before bestowing said honor to see if the intended recipient is interested.
As I see it in most cases, the photographs that are come from Team Suck are generally deeper and more cerebral in total package than just the two second glance.
I don't see that as a bad thing on any level and I feel better with the input I get here than during challenges.
Just my $0.02 USD

I'm doing Genetics, and I'm about to start a PhD in Cambridge from January onwards. The plan is to go to a couple of tropical places first, and then obsess about a small number of genes for the next 3 years :) They're interesting genes, honest! |
