I have already posted my pic, but was wondering if anyone came up with a different take on the garden topic....I think there were quite a few that may get over looked....

I couldn't get a 'garden shot' without the damned flowers getting in the way. Its a flower garden and the crappy things are everywhere. I hope the voters will be tolerant and understanding. Good luck to ya, if you have something without flowers, I know some people who will rejoice! 8-)

Kinda discussed this a bit before, but for example there is Madison Square Garden..."in the garden" would be an indoor shot of maybe a concert or something! However, not all of us could get there and back home in time for the challenge.....I hear ya about the flowers tho....

just make sure the flowers are out of focus...use a shallow depth of field

Yeah..suppose you could blur em a bit...there is also the proverbial "vegetable garden" in which you might not get any flowers...

Maybe a pic of some worms playin' around in the dirt of the garden??

Definition of weed: Something you don't want to grow where it is growing. This means that a flower growing in the middle of the lawn could be referred to as a weed.

Here is another thought...get a pic of the kids playing in the garden....(no flowers because the kids have destroyed them all!)

Well, I don't really hate flowers (check my portfolio), I was just trying to soften up the flower-hating crowd a little, because my entry DOES have a couple of stray blooms in it. Now, my cover is blown...

pardon my ignorance but I thought flowers were alowed but were not to be the man subject of the pic

Simple enough -- compose a photograph somehow related to the garden. Here's the catch... the main subject of your photograph may NOT be a flower.

work ants carrying away your sandwich, to be eaten after your garden shoot, when you weren't looking. :oP

Yeah! That was one of my idea and title the picture Arakis but then the ToPo (Topic Police) will not understand that.

Nor will they understand the Spectacled Cobra which I shot risking my life - I expected things like "Not seen in garden" or worse something like ?!!!

What about the garden as a metaphor for sexuality. e.g. "her Secret Garden".

What about the garden as a metaphor for a place of peace and oasis of refreshment?

The Garden could also be a kinder garden

it could also be a dense, thick, unkempt head of hair ..

just some ideas ...

All great ideas! THIS is the kind of creative thinking I think is really good for these challenges...:)

just some ideas ...

unfortunately, though, from considerable past experience, i've found that it's usually the strictest most literal interpretations that don't get bad votes.

for some reason, i dont think the majority of the users of this site come from a more artistic/imaginative background.

we've railed against that but it seems really difficult to change.

the mantra has become "do a non-literal interpretation and knowingly recieve low/doesnt meet the challenge votes and comments" or "try to placate the voters".

I think imagination is nearly extinct. It's like asking someone to do the dishes and when they say they are finished you notice they didn't do the cups, glasses, and silverware. Or should I say imagination is literaly extinct.

It is a shame there is not more points or consideration for artistic merit tho....would be nice. Anybody know of other sites that are more inclined to that??

An outtake of mine, from this competition (I didn't enter it, or anything much like it, honest. Don't click if you don't like looking at outtakes): a non-flower garden fixture.
