in basic are you allowed using CS3's new B&W converter? |

The best way to get an answer from the Site Council, whose members are far better able to give you an accurate answer, is to send a question via the help menu, then contact us, then tick the box for "DPC General Inquiry."
Much, much better than relying on threads.
But since ya asked, I'd guess that as long as it affects the entire image, it'd probably be legal.

I can't imagine why not, since it's just shortcuts to the already-available image adjustments, and it doesn't use any illegal techniques. |

I'm not familiar with cs3. But just thinking about it, it sounds like something that would globally affect the image, like using the gradient map, or desat, so I would think it would be ok. The only thing I think that might make it different, is if it actually uses a complex set of preset actions, including something that would be illegal? |

i guess the SC would need to look at what the new converter actually does to the image. it might have selective actions in it (just guessing), and if it doesn't then it could be legal. |

Yeah, it seems to me, I vaguely remember a controversial dq some time ago, where the photog had used something in their editing program, that seemed like it worked on the whole image, but it was a script, and one of the things it did was some kind of selection. I can't remember the specifics though. |

I can't imagine it not being allowed. It's the Black/White Adjustment layer right?

It's a combination of several layers all applied simultaneously. B/W, Hue/Sat, Brightness/Contrast, Selective Color... |
