Is there any way I can either lighten this picture, or make it so I can see my boyfriend alittle better, can any one help me out alittle and teach me at the same time on trying to update, improve this picture!

| It looks like your blacks are too close to your midtones and aren't giving you the depth you need |

I shoot people of colour all the ime & there are tips of shooting modes that are optimal for folks like us.

Using the highlight/shadow adjustment could work here.
Tone down the highlights, bring up the shadows and adjust the midtone contrast. |
