Is there any way I can either lighten this picture, or make it so I can see my boyfriend alittle better, can any one help me out alittle and teach me at the same time on trying to update, improve this picture!

What software are you using?

It looks like your blacks are too close to your midtones and aren't giving you the depth you need

I shoot people of colour all the ime & there are tips of shooting modes that are optimal for folks like us.

Using the highlight/shadow adjustment could work here.

Tone down the highlights, bring up the shadows and adjust the midtone contrast.
