Met up with an old friend today, her husband died recently. The last photo she has of him was taken on her cellphone.....too small to print and if she tries to enlarge it it just pixelates. She asked for my help ..... I've tried, but it's beyond my abilities. I'm working in ps7, I tried enlarging very gradually but.......
photo she gave me to work with

where I'm at right now

I would really appreciate any help and advice. She just wants something she can print out at home to sit on her bedside table.

Try downloading the demo of GenuineFractals. It's advertised to do exactly what you want. Your mileage may vary :)

Thanks Neil, I'll give it a go

Gonna be tough for sure. I was about to head to bed, but will see what I can do tomorrow. Can't promise a lot though.

I don't know if this is any better or not.
Now that I've seen the genuine fractals suggestion I'm off to try it :)

Just to give u a quick idea of what the GF demo will give you.

A little bit of tweaking can be done.

Bout halfway through the d/l. Am hoping it's going to be compatible with ps7. It says that it's compatible with CS2 and CS3, ps elements 4 and up. Fingers crossed.

Yeah... fully functional 30-day free trial...
What they DON'T tell you is that you get those lovely watermarks so, tho' it may function, it's unusable :(

Downloaded it, don't have the system requirements to run it! If I want to keep trying I need to d/l a microsoft 250MB 'bit'. Talk about frustrating!

How do I uninstall the file I d/l if it's not fully installed, just in a folder on my desktop waiting to be installed?

Bit like the Fluid Mask trial I d/l......works a treat, but you can't save the file!

If nothing installed you should be able to just delete the file?
05/20/2007 03:47:29 AM · #14
Only so much can be done from a 7Kb original of 176x144 pixels.
Hope this helps somehow.

((((hugs))))

ps .... so I just chuck the unopened file into the wastebasket and delete? And that gets rid of it off the computer? I looked in my programs but cos it's not installed it ain't there
05/20/2007 03:56:47 AM · #18
By the way Brad .... how did you do it?
05/20/2007 04:31:09 AM · #19
Ummm...
A whole bunch of steps? (make sure you click the View full-sized image link to see the whole thing)

Small upsizing steps, bicubic smoother, then a downsize small step in bicubic sharper, then alternate sharpening methods, between motion blur and lens blur. When doing the motion blur, I set the plane horizontally first, run it, then run again in vertical. Run a few more upsizing steps, downsizing, manual sharpening locally, made some levels and white balance adjustments globally as well as seleted areas.

Stuff like that - took a few tries to find the combination.
Did I mention a few steps?

;)

Hehe ..... just one or two! I obviously took the resizing way to quickly which is why I ended up with my pixelated mess.

Glad Brad got to it. I don't think I've could have done that well. WTG Brad.

Thanks!
Took a few tries to find the right combination of resizing steps.

Bratly...your brain holds far too much useful information when it comes to using Photoshop. :P WTG!
Edited for typo.

I just talked to my friend Brad ..... she's asked that I send her heartfelt thanks for your kindness to a stranger. She's printed the photo off and it's sitting by her bed where it belongs.

(((((hugs))))
