I would like to suggest starting a Petition aimed at Hoya in regards to sustaining Pentax in the event they decide to drop the brand. I think it is important that we become pro-active and not wait around like cattle off to the slaughter house. Believe me, I am ready to call the President of Hoya to give him my point of view which will be quite compelling to say the least. I have the "Kahuna's" to speak directly to him as I have with many CEO's in the past..Just another human when it comes down to it.

Let's get the e-mail address of Hoya, Japan and compose a letter stating how disappointed we would be if they were to discontinue the Pentax brand and how that would affect our perception of Hoya and all brands associated with them.

I doubt that they will drop the brand, but let's show our loyalty to Pentax with a strong message...Don't play with "Mother Pentax!"

I am not concerned, as it would not affect my status or jeopardize my position as a photographer, creative director or music composer.

Let's Do It!

Why?

This is an honest question! Are there rumors that Pentax will be dropped?

The Pentax Hoya merger was scrapped mad long ago! Hoya still has interest but Pentax is holding out.

Pentax and Hoya merger scrapped - As taken from DPReview

Tuesday, 10 April 2007 07:30 GMT

On 21st December last year Pentax and Hoya issued a joint statement declaring their intention to merge in a share-swap. Today Pentax has announced it is to scrap this plan in an apparent rift between the board and the Pentax president Fumio Urano who today resigned over the matter. Takashi Watanuki will take over as president of Pentax and in another twist to the story Hoya's board has apparently confirmed they will continue to negotiate for a takeover bid.

The offer has but, that doesnt mean anything.

I doubt that Hoya is gonna buy a brand out and kill it 100%. Its all about profit the next K10 just might have a different name on it.

I am no expert, either in photography or business, but from what I can see, Pentax as a brand is on the up, a rising product that is matching and sometimes outperforming Nikon and Canon.

Would any businessman worth his salt, consider dropping a brand that is growing daily. Just look here to see how many users are switching to Pentax, and this isn't just a plug for Pentax cos I use one.

Building on what i just sayed and what you have said.

Changing the name of the product actually means lost consumer sales. Ford changed the Mark Z to Zepher, Taruaus to 500 and Sable to Montego.

Guess what happens 1 year later they made the decision to change all 3 names back. SO if hoya is smart theyll leave the Pentax name on products.

Yep, I agree and think that is what will happen. Pentax has been a recognised name in photography for many years, don't kill the golden goose!! :)

I would agree, this isn't like KM which was a failing product (had been for quite a long time). Sony made a wise choice in assimilating that under the Sony name.

However, Pentax is still kicking. I doubt it'd be scrapped.

Well even if KM was doing as well as Pentax currently is, Sony would have taken the name over. Sometimes it is about who has better name recognition.
