For the old folk that remember way back when, I was
Swinging_Johnson_v1.
Then decided to change my user name to a more traditional sounding theme to
American_Horse
Today, I was granted another change of user name to
Man_Called_Horse
Your can just call me Horse, of course.

Just so that we are clear.
In a way, it is like my tribe and it's traditions.
I start with a child's name.
I eventually get an adult name.
I did not go through the traditional sweat, or hanging from eagle talons in a tee pee until my flesh tore.
I did not, converse with my spirit guide for advice on life, or the future.
I did not go to a dance, and sing to my ancestors.
I simply made a personal decision, to turn a leaf, to be more serious, to be competitive, to grow with my craft, to kick some white butts from the Iceland, and to actually try something new for a while.
I am Man_Called_Horse, and I am not afraid of anyone. I am not afraid of point and shoot, I am not afraid of Nikon, I am not afraid of village burners.
Can you see, I am a warrior, and I am not afraid to die the death of my ancestors. I will not let my forefathers down with disgrace. I will not let my team down. But, most of all, I will not let myself down ever again.
I am Man_Called_Horse, and I am not afraid any more.

The masses probably won't have read this thread, and will be unaware of the name change, evan as they may have been unaware of the original.

| No harm, no foul. The shots I had for that name in mind didn't turn out as I'd have liked. I'm working up at least two other names as we speak. (Just givin' you a hard time, Horse - I do like the new name.) |

I do have a native name.
"Pony Rider"
But, it is still my childhood name. I have not received, or earned my adult name.
Too busy with life. Life seems to get in the way.

Okay, I see the progression from childhood name to your current user name. Is it impossible to find time to do whatever is needed to earn your adult name? Modern life means so many old ways are lost, but someone needs to carry them on for the children to come in the future or your culture will die or become just a forgotten part of history. |

And actually, not to bore you with details, but, because of a very respectable elder in my life who once gave me an reading of my future, I am to return to the rez some time soon, and continue my journey.
Her readings have been right on the button so far, by the way.

That's great to hear. I wouldn't be bored by the details cos I could tell you a few things that happened to me a few years ago that made me stop and rethink my life and increased my interest in the old ways. Good Luck with your journey, my friend.:) |
