didnt see this thread started yet, so figgered i'd start it ...

so, i had some round outtakes to share.
one o' my favorites:

chrome dome :))

my entry wasnt really that circular from the perspective i shot it, but i liked it as a picture - but what are ya gonna do, right? :P

what do people think ? the old 'which one woulda done better and why' routine :P ... any takers???????

My opinion is that they are just Domes. One is egg shaped and the other is Half a circle. Not really round. But great pictures. I would vote high for the crome dome if it was a candid. And the Capitol if it was in a patriotic theme. Just me

Simple question, simple answer.

Granite would have done the best. Look at M's 7th place shot.

thanks AI! did u click the link at the bottom for 'Bulbousness'? there are some more choices there :)

Mavrik, you're probably right. I was like 'interesting shot/less good challenge fit' vs 'less interesting shot/nails the challenge'. ultimately i went with what was behind Door Numero Uno !

Mag - i would have expected your cloud roller to have obtained a fairly high position. I think its a great shot.

What i meant to say was - I would have expected it to finish higher than it did

note - must take tablets.....

cpanaioti: that's very cute. throw some sidelighting for more depth on that and up the contrast, and you might have a contender. actually im surprised your entry didn't do better.

irockstars: thanks .. that was actually one of my top contenders ..

chinstrap: i also bet your flower would have scored better than your gascap. simply a stunning flower macro. although, i really like your gascap as an abstract - if you could have solved the reflection problem it would be even better! thanks for your comments, too.

thanks again, all ...

This was my original shot for Round:

Dimple II

I couldn't get some annoying specks out of the photo without reshooting so I submitted another version. Too lazy.

wow...how did you get from that second outtake to the one you submitted.
They're totally different.

ANY shape without corners which connects back to itself is round

All of you folks have some great shots that didn't make the cut, thanks for sharing them.

I got hung up on a picture and unsubmitted this one for the real lousey one I entered.

Oops, I was going for a thumb, next time.

jacko lantern, i preferred your original. i like the geometric pattern you made with them and the monochrome!

roley: those are great! weird that the ring of spheres didn't score higher. you have a good eye for geometric forms and light ...

autool: i think both your sub and this shot are good , for differing reasons. the sub could have used more fill light on the spider (not like you prolly had a choice at the time) but is a terrific macro, and this one has really appealing composition, enhanced by the shallow depth of field and blue bg.

Kollin,
Thanks for the nice feedback. I had just bought a set of diopters about 10 minutes before I found the spider I submitted. I was hell bent on usung one I had used the new stuff on so I pushed every thing else back. Yeah the fill flash would have helped but it was so bright I couldnt see the monitor well enough to see what I had got, I must learn to use more patience and take more different shots while I am there.
