OK Aubrey, I think you are confused by this thread! I listed two comments from my contrast picture. The comments are opposites, one person calling it a sure winner, the other saying it doesn't even meet the challenge. I was pointing out the difference of opinions.
I think you thought I didn't get the contrast, and I don't understand your John question??? I think Kolin (ie magnetic9999) was referring to another member named John... (By the way everybody, aiweaver (Aubrey) is my brother! The round challenge was his first challenge and he's been bit hard by the photog bug!!)

I'm curious, do you find these two comments equally "offensive" (or absurd, or funny, or however you might choose to describe it):
- "dirty and stupid"
- "i Love nipples. A+"
I'm just curious what your reaction to the two different views were. Seems like I'd be just as frustrated by people praising nothing but nipples as those berating it for no other reason.
I'd also be curious, if you wouldn't mind, for a quick description of what the metaphor was you were trying to capture - I can sorta see maybe corporate scandals, executives prostituting themselves for dividends maybe (although prostitute seems like the wrong metaphor - maybe pimp is better?), or maybe she's supposed to be the dividend for making it rich. But there are elements that throw me - especially the cherry. |

mag999... wow, you got a taste of small minded middle america in those comments.. If one of the purposes of art is to make people stop, think and react I think you created art... nice shot btw..

Sorry, Smelly/JD, for some reason I thought the J stood for John ...
ScottK - Part of submitting that shot was about pushing the boundaries. Up until that time, no one had submitted a shot to DPC that was so frank and 'nipply'. Yes, I understand that now it's passe, and everyone's jaded, but at that time, there was no precedent, and I admit I wanted to provoke a reaction. The comments you pointed out don't really say anything to me, other than about the priorities of the people who made them. In the end, those 2 comments didn't surprise me, and they're not particularly interesting except possibly in a psycho-analytic sense, esp the 'dirty and stupid' one.
To answer your second question, big corporate success apparently equates with money, sex, power, and 'access' (the cherry). in many value and belief systems, unfettered access to virgins is considered the ultimate. Virgins can be people and they can also be pristine resources (ie wildlife refuges that are being considered for exploitation).
