No idea what to title this....has anyone else noticed this? I was trying to get to my workshop from this page but the drop down menu is partly hidden by the thread option window, as you can see here.

You can ...

Set your screen resolution to higher so that the Thread Option window is not under your My Home dragdown ...

or ...

Just go to ANY other thread that doesn't have 24 pages on it so that the option window isn't so far over.

If you want to keep your spot you can just open DPC again and go to your workshop from the main page and then switch windows to come back to that page.

Setting my screen resolution higher isn't an option, I like the resolution I am using now. I know I can go to another page but there must be a way to code it so the drop down menu stays on top of everything else on the page instead of being hidden underneath it.

I don't think so ... the thread options are waiting for you to change them at any time and are a control window. Going to My Home is only a click away.

So you can't resize your browser so that the field moves a bit to the left or right?

Looks like the 'Z' index value (CSS) needs adjusting to give the drop-down menu priority. Not something that you can do Karen...I've noticed this before as well at times. Hopefully Langdon will see this and do a quick fix on it. :D

Yes I suppose I could but that gets tedious. I am impatient, I suppose, and would like a permanent fix.

it could probably be fixed by setting a Z-index setting in the CSS file, letting the menu always be the top layer.

What web browser and version? Not having problems in Firefox even when i try to force it todo this. No problems in IE 7 either.

If your using anything older then IE 6 then you need to upgrade you will start finding more and more and more websites not acting 100% proper. Unfortunately at work all i can sue is IE6 and this site has a quirk or two even in 6.

So just to point something out all current web browsers (IE7, Firefox 2... yada yada) dont have the problem. And they all run on computers with an OS thats been our for 5 years. Alot of sites arent gonna fix something that is a problem with IE 6 on windows 2000 etc etc... unless its a common work around. Langdon is a good coder and seems nice though lol.

I'm sure it's just an oversight but I think any good code should at least be compatible on the most recent versions of any popular browser used on the internet especially one like IE.

I missed that this was the Web Site Suggestions Forum too ... LOL

Yanko it is atleast compatible with the most recent versions. I tested it on IE7 and Firefox 2. No problems on a resized browser or lower resolutions. Thats why i wanted to know what shes using.

IE 6 is 5 years old.

If your on XP you can upgrade to IE7. If not it might be time to think about Firefox.

As i said IE6 is 5 years old and its not gonna get any better lol. Microsoft has cut off support for anything prior to XP and chances are IE7 will be the last for XP anyways.

Its your call but eventually (say 2 years) you cant expect any support and you can expect problems with many websites. With browsers like firefox they tend to support older operating systems and new full versions come out a bit more frequent. (1 full version a year versus 2 to 3 years for IE).

If you have any questions just ask many people here us firefox. Its a small download its easy to install and easy to use.

Nothing like that happening on either Safari or Firefox on the Mac. Just for fun, I fired up the last version of IE I used (5.2) and it didn't do it there either. Looks like a quirk of your system or Microsoft browsers on Windows. Good excuse to start using a better browser, IMO.

Well IE 5.0 on Mac was the equiv of the 5.5 standards on PC. The IE codebase for mac was a completely different build not a port. In fact i believe the coding teams were split up a bit also. They were neevr quite the same.

Im gonna test it on IE 6 at work... or i could reboot into another windows installation (MultiBoot setup for testing software).

It shouldn't matter if it was 20 years old. If a large number of web users is using it you should be compatible for it. Last I checked more people use IE6 than they do IE7.

I still have IE6 installed and tested it out and got the same problem so it appears to be that version specifically having the problem.

On that note you know how many mid 80's and early 90's Ford F-150's are on the road on daily duty and you cant get parts from the manufacturer?

Microsoft has done the same thing. They can make an IE 7 spec browser to run on Windows 3.1 (last 16 bit version was 5.0). But thats just one more thing that allows people to not upgrade.

As for web designers yes, you need to cater to your crowd. There does come a certain point where its a hassle to take care of a certain bug though. There was a point in time when java menu's didnt work in netscape 6. WHat did most web designers do? Not a damn thing because more people were using IE and it worked just fine. Netscape 6 had many java script issues and it was killed very quickly 6.2 fixed some and then it was dumped.

Chances are the problem wasnt apparent to most people because the menu bar didnt have that many buttons on it till now. If IE6 refuses to draw the menu over the combo box, there might not be a direct solution, some times its like that. Well see?

A basic show/hide javascript function will do the trick. Go to this url Tryit Editor v1.4 - W3Schools and copy/paste the code below in the left pane of the 'tryit' editor (wipe out the existing code that's there).

I added the DPChallenge 'Thread Options' combobox to the code and made a call to the hide/show function in the 'Tutorial' mouseover code.

Drop down menu

Tutorials

Scripting

Validation

Mouse over these options to see the drop down menus
