I took a photo a couple of weeks ago for one of the side challenges and therefore it has been seen by a few people and has been commented upon.
Is it bad form to go and re-shoot the picture and enter it for a challenge?
What do you think?

I do it all the time. Those 30-day side challenges are wonderful opportunities to get out and shoot creatively, so you're very likely to find stuff you'd later want to enter. And any other shots, for that matter, not just ones from side challenges.
For example, I have a shot from last summer that I've always liked, and I've been waiting for a good challenge to reshoot and enter.
You can temporarily hide your challenge entry during the voting. Select the image in your collection when in the collection manager view and click the button to hide it at the bottom of the screen. Just remember to unhide it later. :)
