I had an idea to stop voters picking individual images to vote on from thumbnails. Thumbnails should only be shown ranked after the full size image has been voted on. This thumbnail view is useful to further tweak your votes but thumbnails will remind you what you have seen already in full size. Thumbnails should not be used to pick which images to vote on in my view.
Reasons to stop cherry picking:
1. Stops voters missing worthy images whose thumbnails are not super eye-catching. It is thus a more fair way.
2. Website bandwidth saving. Why transfer all those hundreds of un-voted thumbnails? |

One of the major things that cherry picking defeats is the random presentation of the images. This random presentation is to provide an equal chance for all images to be viewed and voted on. |

One of the major complaints about eliminating the thumbs page is that it eliminates the opportunity to get a "30,000 foot view" of the entries. There are, however, solutions to eliminate the cherry-picking while still showing the thumbs page. There are also other (less convenient) ways around the random presentation. Making it less convenient to cherry-pick would be a step froward, in my personal opinion. |

I like this idea.
Maybe instead of only having thumbs for those you voted on then having thumbs presented only after the photo has been opened once. Sometimes if there are a small number of photos in a challenge, then I like to look through them all once then go back and pick the top shots then the bottom and then everything in between. |

Sounds fine to me, just keep the commenting feature (popup from icon) available in whatever thumbnail view is implemented please. :) |

I'm really beginning to think that ppl are getting wayyyy to serious about challenge voting. There's about 10 million other things I'd rather see happen around here other than Langdon wasting his time trying to make voting more "fair'.
These "change the voting" threads are getting ridiculous.

Quit the bitching and whining about voting. I haven't felt like voting for a couple of weeks now because of all the bullshit. It's getting less and less fun here.

Why should what others' say about voting impact whether you vote or not? |

Because I don't enjoy it anymore as I used to.

Don't worry about what people say about voting - enjoy the photographs! The Sports challenge, for instance, was great fun to view and vote - lots of very entertaining pictures. And the DPL challenge is very entertaining as well - vote as though you were going to look through a rack of CDs to see what's new. Ignore (as in use the "ignore" feature) all scoring and bitching and moaning threads. Way nicer. :-) |

Can we make all the thumbs 240px with voting buttons below each so I don't even have to click through to all those huge images, they're too hard to see at 640x480 on my crappy laptop screen anyways :P |

while I was typing I looked down and seen what wavelength had said, I will dito that but perhaps not so large, lol
now that the vote for 720x720 proved that a majority of users agree to incresed sizes for challenge entries perhaps it is time to think about making the thumbnails a little bigger also ?

Uh-oh. That means Langdon will need to come up with watermarks for both sizes! :) |

lol yeah it seems that there is no easy way to please everyone.
I say lets have full sized 3000x3000 limit 5MB and if you dont want your images stolen., dont put them on the internet as the moto...
that or 720x720 200KB works too. :)

If that happens, I think we should make the thumbs smaller, to compensate for the extra storage space the larger entries will consume. |

I will gladly let DPC delete all of my sub 5 scored photos as well as the negative comments i have received to free up some storage space ... lol
edit: grammar

I like the idea of doing away with voting by browsing thumbnails (a.k.a CherryPickin). Here is what I think should be done.
1. Keep the same layout and you can view the thumbnails.
2. If you click on a thumbnail it will take you to your DPChallenge assigned random voting position , you will not see the thumbnail you clicked on until you have voted all pictures before that thumbnail.
3. If you click on a thumbnail at anytime during voting (other than the photographs you have already voted on) it will send you back to the next randomly photograph to be viewed. You will not see the thumbnail you clicked on until you have voted all pictures before that thumbnail.
4. If you click on the you WILL be able to see the full size picture but it will only allow you to comment until you have voted all pictures before that thumbnail.
5. You will ONLY be able to view the full size when, a) you have voted on that picture, b) you have voted on all pictures, and c) if you wish to make a comment only.

do we have proof of said "cherry picking"?
It occurs to me, as soon as I took personal responsibility for my photos, instead of looking for others to blame, my scores improved, and my attitude with it.
