Mozy.com offers 2GB of free online backup. I've been trying it out for a few days, and it works really well. I'm especially pleased that it is mac-compatible. The restore-process is fairly easy as well, and if needed you can have them send you your data on a CD or DVD. You can upgrade to unlimited storage for $4.95 per computer.

Also, if you refer someone else to join the free service, you get an extra 256MB storage. If you click here i get a referral. if you click here, or the link above, you go straight to the site without a referral (I wanted to be upfront about the referral, and give people a way to check out the site without feeling like i'm trying to use them; even separate from the referral, I think it's a very good service that people may be interested in).

EDIT/ADDENDUM: less than a week after i signed up for the service, my laptop's hard drive crashed :-O i'm still rebuilding stuff with backups, but the service has helped out a lot and i'm encouraging my family and friends to be more diligent about their backups.

You're in luck! My laptop won't burn discs for me and I want all my pictures off of it...thanks for the link. You've got my referral.

I read this and am PUT OFF
The Software and Service may collect certain non-personally identifiable information that resides on your computer, including, without limitation, statistics relating to how often backups are started and completed, performance metrics relating to the Software, and configuration settings. This information collected will be sent to Berkeley Data Systems and may be used by Berkeley Data Systems without restriction.
I don't like THEM having access to MY computer

I believe XDrive which is now owned by aol gives you 5GB, which isnt even enough to backup 3 memory cards of pictures lol.

While it's not the same thing.... I just thought I'd mention that smugmug allows unlimited storage of photos on the Pro account.

As RainMotorSports mentioned, even AOL's 5Gb really isn't very much when it comes to backing up images. I currently have about 104 Gb of pictures (about 27,000) out on smugmug. And if I were to ever lose my hard drive(s) here, they could send them to me on CD/DVD.

I do like the peace-of-mind of knowing that my customer's files are backed up off-site. And it's not costing me anything extra since I'm already using smugmug to host my website.
