I just got my 70-200 2.8 IS and have fallen deeply in love after only one short one hour soccer game. But it is obvious that with the weight, a monopod would go a long way. Shooting handheld wasn't horrible but no doubt the monopod would increase the rate of "good shots".

Not looking to break the bank (as I already did that with the lens) but I am looking for a recs on a good monopod that would be primarily used for shooting sporting events.

Thanks for any input.

I bought a monopod (Manfrotto) that is, in itself, too heavy for me. All matched and recommended by the tripod salesman/specialist at B&H...and it's considered pretty light, not cheap either.

If I buy another, I would go for one that's super ultra light weight, (mag fiber) this time around. Between my D200 and the 70-200mm 2.8 VR ( ~ the same weight as you're talking about), it's too much for me to lug around. I don't bother with it anymore.

Maybe worth keeping in mind.

This looks like the same one I have. I've used it with the 100-400 lens which is comparable in weight to the 70-200 so may work fine for you.

Wouldnt be without mine

On the recommendation of several people I bought this monopod. I wouldnt be without it now. One hand operation and not heavy. Will handle just about anything I can toss at it.

I have the same one as hopper but if I were in the market for a new one this sounds extra spiffy.
