Just my opinion.

The background is too present , too visible and a bit distracting as the model wears only black clothes.
She's very near the background and viewers can appreciate the texture of the wall but very little details of the lady , she appears too flat.
You could blur a little the background and see the difference.

As only eyes are visible , you could try to focus the attention on her face , have you tried different crops of this photo ?
By the way she has beautiful green eyes...
When I look at it more in detail , I notice a strange color of skin (orange tones), have you increased the saturation ?
It's maybe only a reflect.

Do you have more photos of this serie ?

about the brick wall:

even if you go 10 steps in front of the wall and use very shallow DoF, the pattern of the wall will always be visible. Your choice if that's what you want.

There is definitely potential in this picture. But also some errors imho.

I would crop much tighter. That's always something you tend to do wrong in the beginning. Here the wall adds nothing but distraction. The strength of the photo is the eye.

Also the ligh is not optimal. Too much from above. The eyes are too dark. Have a look at this thread//www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=585228

also color cast is a bit orange, but that may be my screen.

I thought I would show an edit of what I think would make this photo "pop" a little more.

Are you going to share with us what you did to it to make it pop?

Me too:

Levels, Hue/Sat, added some sepia toning, Blurred the background and sharpened the eyes!

i just cropped, desaturated the background, adjusted hue/sat in her face and eyes, sharpened the eyes a little bit and voila :)
oh, and to make a comment on your original, the very bright brick just above the head is a bit distracting :)

While I tend to agree, you can't leave the background out. The red brick at the top is a stark contrast to the black.

Forgetting the rule of 3rd's the red brick draws alot of attention for me. Attention to an area that contains nothing.
