I finally got my MAC and loving it. I purchased Apeture along with the MAC and am finding it challenging after only using PSE in the past, but I do love the results I am seeing with Apeture.

Anyways, I was wondering if someone could put together a tutorial of "how to prepare photos for DPC Challenges using Apeture" so that I can maximize the quality of the photo.

Please!!! I need to get back on track entering in challenges.

Gee, maybe no one on DPC knows about Aperture yet? I use an old Mac G5 single processor, but just use iPhoto, for most, and Graphic Converter for anything special. I have a copy of Aperture, but it will not run on Panther OSX 3.9, and I haven't upgraded to Tiger yet.

Aaron,
I have been using Aperture professionally for about a year now. Just love it. It has really streamlined my workflow and it runs better than Lightroom did on my MAC. I still use PS for any tricky editing, but 90% of my editing and adjustments are done in Aperture now.

What did you need to know about maximizing the quality of your photos? Are you looking for special techniques or just how to use it? If your just looking for a tutorial on basic usage watch the DVD that came with the program, it will give far more info than any tutorial will give you. Also search the program in the Apple forums, there is a lot of good info in there.

If I had time, I'd do a basic usage tutorial but it being Wedding and Graduation season I have no spare time. If you can wait until July or early August I could do one then.

Best of luck, once you get the hang of it, you'll love it.

I used to optimize the photo to 150kb in Photoshop before saving, but in Aperture I can not find where to work with file size when saving. If you had some time later to make a basic tutorial on what you do from start to finish in Aperture, that would be great!
I am loving the program, it will take a long time to master it.

1 - I love how G5 is considered old lol.

2 - I love how Apple has gone down to full versioning OS 10 instead of just subversioning. Tecnically an OS XI has to come someday.

Per instruction from Kirbic about saving for challenges when using Graphic Converter, I have to strip off all the fluff like exif file and color profile files to get the size to come out right for uploading. I am sure that in the Aperture help files there is info about doing this with Aperture. No more images than the one or two a week for challenges, you may just want to edit in Aperture, then export to PS to size and upload.

I highly recommend the .mac account which you can get, for a few $ per year, by having a mac computer on line. It's a lot of help to me to have the support and information available there as well as the software and updates that I can download from the .mac site. There is a also "geek forum" where the software designers and system developers will find answers for you, to any question you can think of, that is related to mac OS or software.
