Is it safe to purchase through Amazon? Are the lenses packed well and shipped quickly? Definitely cheaper than the stores so am looking at purchase online.

Peoples experience with them bad/good, would be appreciated.

Thank you

Ordered a 50mm 1.8, cheaper than anywhere else, came very quickly and well packaged.
Very happy.

I ordered a sigma 70-300 from amazon a while back and it was well priced, quickly delivered and in perfect condition.

Not too say its any different, but this was from amazon.de

I order all my stuff through Amazon. They are packed really good and it was shipped really fast. Good from me.

I've had no problems with Amazon, and in the unlikely event something happens during shipping, they'll take care of you.

Amazon is great. I ordered my 70-200 2.8IS from Amazon, and I was using it the very next day! I paid a little more at Amazon than what B+H's had it for, but at the time B+H was closed for Passover and I wanted it right away.

Yep, go for it. You may want to check exactly WHO you are buying it from, though. You may be buying it through Amazon's site, but it may come from another dealer. I have bought almost all of my gear (and all of my lenses) through Amazon, with no complaints. However, I have to be careful and make sure it doesn't come from another dealer where I would have to pay hefty shipping charges or state sales tax. Just something to keep in mind...

This is true. Amazon isn't warehousing this stuff - they just provide the interface. I've seen 17th Street Photo and Beach Camera selling through Amazon - both have great reviews on resellerratings.com. The Tokina lens I want is actually $22 cheaper through Amazon than through B&H, and Amazon picks up the shipping for orders over a certain amount (something like $20).

17th street photo rocks. They tend to stock crap I cant find anywhere else like proprietary batterys the manufactuer has discontinued. You do have to watch out for older batteries but i havent had an issue yet.

I just ordered the Sigma 30 1.4 Nikon mount that I've been trying to find for months off of Amazon two days ago.
Coming from 47th St. Photo in Brooklyn with the UV from 17th St. photo.
What's up w/ the streets in the shop names? lol
I got immediate confirmation w/ tracking numbers.
Cheaper than B&H too.

Thanks to all for your replies.

Yes, I had already noticed that some items came from different distributors but the items I am after come from Amazon and not a third party which makes it easier as all free shipping (don't need them in a rush).

Once again thanks to you all for your replies. Love this site!!!!!!

I can say without doubt that if you have some sort of problem with any equipment you buy at B&H they solve that issue immediately and they have, as they say, a liberal return policy. That is a lot of peace of mind for a pricey item. Buying something via Amazon that comes from another source, albeit 17th or 47th or... the additional links in the chain surely make a return more complex. I tend to go for the peace of mind - however, I detest the NY sales tax of 8.something percent.

I havent shopped at B&H but if they dont take orders 24 Hours, then how do they have 24 Hour returns and support? You did say Immediatley. Besides you shouldnt have to deal with amazon if there is a problem unless the retailier isnt solving it for you.

Correct that then for not on Friday sundown to Sunday and Jewish holidays. But other than the necessary religious holidays they do not delay.

Plus Retailers like Adorama only provide through Amazon as Aditional advertising means. Most of them have their own sales website and you can just go through that. Being on Amazon puts them at your finger tips if your an amazon shopper.

If I hadn't have been sitting on my hands when the email update came through that they have that lens in stock I would have ordered from them.
But since I've been waiting for so long I decided to go with a retailer via Amazon since it was available there.
I'd much prefer to get stuff locally though, as it's really not that much more expensive for most stuff and they will often haggle.
But it's hard for them to have everything in stock or be able to get it all the time.
