Where is the location for the photos? Veteran's Park north & south has parking available at that time of the morning, & I believe North Harbor Drive does too. Astor & Prospect Ave. also have parking.

The place I was looking at was right behind the Betty Brinn Museum, They have a platform out there. It appears to be open to the general public so I doubt we would have any troubles. Only thing is not exactly sure where the sun will come up or if the Art Museum will be in a prime location for photos or if it will block the view of the sun.

current weather prediction is

High 66°F
Low 52°F The high is going down but the low is going up. at least it will be 2 degrees warmer in the morning.

Me and Smartypants will be there by around 10:00. I have Kirbic's cell phone number so will contact him to rendezvous with everyone at the zoo. It's probably a good idea for everyone to PM bugz a cell number which he can then email back to everyone so we have a way of staying in touch if anyone gets separated.
05/06/2007 09:23:28 AM · #133
I am starting a list of contact info for everyone. I will continue to gather info until Thursday, At which time I will distribute an email to everyone in this thread. So please PM me your cell #'s and email addys.

Schedule goes.

1. Meet by Milwaukee Art Museum just before Sunrise.
2. Breakfast, Yet to be determained. Might need to use cell phones for this one as it could be a last minute decision.
3. Meet at Zoo main entrance 9AM.
4. Where to go next? I guess that will be decided after we are all together at the zoo...

I will continue to bump this thread and I will send out PMs to everyone who has not responded here by Monday night.

So far I have
Dirtypainter and Strangeghosts #'s

weather update and bump

now the weather report shows rain showers for the 12th. However, being this is Wisconsin. That prediction is subject to change and probably will more than once over the next 6 days.

Hey guys, I'm back in for this. I decided to not go back home this weekend cause of some school stuff I need to do on Friday and Sunday for a project. Let me know what the updates are please and Fritz, if you can still give me a ride that would be much appreciated.

Edit to add: The weather channel is saying 60 and partly sunny for the 12th. And I also realized I don't have a lens suitable for the zoo, anyone have a spare tele/super tele I can borrow? I'll treat it real nice...

I very much wanted to attend, but now have a training scheduled since I agreed to coach my son's 6 year old soccer team. It's funny because we have to learn skills that the boys won't even comprehend until a few years down the road...

Anyway, I hope that more of these happen in the future.

I'll be there. Can we have a more definite time to meet at MAM that "just before sunrise"? what time does that mean?
05/08/2007 09:48:39 AM · #139
Sunrise is at 5:24 AM. I would say meet right around 5:00AM. Waiting for one of locals to chime in with the best and closest parking?

There should be plenty of street parking at 5am on a Saturday. There's a quite a few residential streets around the lake area so you don't have to pay to park at the museum itself. The only downside is that you may have to walk a little bit.

Edit to add: Here's a quick map for those of you not familiar with the area. You can park pretty much on any of those streets that are around the museum. Parking should be free since it'll be a Saturday.

Edit to add again: There's a small park on top of a parking garage on the west side of Lincoln Memorial drive that overlooks the art museum. You can get lots of great shots from up there of the museum and the sunrise. I've done a few night shots from up there and they turned out pretty good.

I'll be there for the sunrise. I think the 05:00 time is good, allows for getting set up. The last time I went there at sunrise was for the Venus transit in June 2004. I just parked right out front of the museum. I don't know if that will be a viable alternative with multiple vehicles, but at that time of the morning, traffic won't be an issue! I know there is parking in the War Memorial parking lot, which is north of the museum. It's likely that we won't have to go that far, at that time of day.
05/08/2007 10:48:26 AM · #142
The war memorial parking lot would probably be the best place to meet?

If so, Then we just need to figure out a place for breakfast.

I am still all for Holy Hill or Horicon or both afterwards and I haven't ruled out anything else so keep thinking of places to venture to after the zoo.

we have 11 confirmed attending. This will be a pretty good sized group.

well, yeah, but keep in mind that the Nikon people (person?) will be shunned... :)
05/08/2007 12:09:26 PM · #144
You guys can shun me... I will just stalk you all day and get the good candids of people undoing grundies and picking noses etc.. I have alot of room in my portfolio. lol Actually I think the Nikon Count is up to 3 now and one of them is a lady so you have to be extra nice. haha. At least to her, :)

just wondering if anyone is bringing more than one camera body along. i have been thinking about bringing one along with a 20mm lens on it so I do not have to change glass as often.

I have been so busy lately and I just saw this thread today and I would love to tag along to the Zoo. I don't think I'll go to the lake front as I was just there not to long ago. What time are you meeting at the Zoo?

Weather update:
61 and sunny

But with this being the upper midwest and all, it could quite possibly be far from that on the day of.

Edit to add: Here is some of the stuff I've taken down by the lake in the past. It was all done with my old P&S so I want to redo a lot of it sometime soon.

Linky.
