where were you? was there anything above you?

Karen, you're too funny. I was standing on a dock in front of a restaurant at lunchtime. There were 10 or 15 people eating on a deck behind me.

That really is a puzzler, it sure does look like a spent cartridge.

Here's a possible explanation - birds like shiny things, and perhaps a bird was flying by with this particular prize in its beak and happened to loose grip on it just above your head. Well - what are you all looking at me like that for? - it COULD happen...really.

Hey, it's either that or a Sopranos-type ending, take your pick. :)

I thought I would get a wider audience if I opened another thread about this, and I got some good replies. I think RainMotorSports solved the mystery with this response:

"Not a gun/bullet cartidge or a battery. The primer cap would still be in one and and the other end would have whats left of the crimp. Also its no where near the bridge at all thats an illusion.

It looks like a holder and is actually attached to the end of the pole (non technical name). Its in an odd place to be a fishing pole holder but it definitely looks like a holder attached to a boat."

Of course, I like Karen's Team-Suck-Creative ideas much better.

If that is a brass outrigger for a rod, I am glad I am not holding the rod, you would need to be hercules.
It is definatley something falling from above, Watch the news for any answers.

On the DPL/TS division, I'm definitely remaining on TS. Whether I also participate in DPL is irrelevant to that.

But as I put my name into the free agent pool, I'm quite astounded to see that my average over the past 5 challenges is 6.089! I guess it's been a good month. :)

I'm in none of the current challenges. Between my trip to Atlanta and the worst case of poison ivy in my life, I've bee more than a little out of sorts. I haven't managed more than about 3 hours of sleep for several nights running now, and I slept this evening from 7 pm - midnight. I've taken my sleeping pill and I'm waiting and hoping to fall asleep again shortly.

But I'm trying to come up with something for both the DPL album cover and one of next Tuesday's challenges, and I think I've got my May free study wrapped up.

Oof, good luck with the poison ivy!

The trouble with dpc:
They don't even know they've been born.

Apart from the ones with poison ivy outbreaks, of course :)

For about two
decades, people on the Norwegian
side of the Pasvik valley have been
shaking their fists at the
environmental black spot on the
Russian side of the valley. Nikkel, a
desolate and isolated place, is home
to a specialist nickel, palladium and
platinum foundry. The Russian
authorities have long struggled to
raise enough money for a clean-up
programme and have now reached
an agreement with the Nordic
Investment Bank (NIB). NIB is
providing a $30 million loan.
Norway has also pledged NOK 270
million and the Swedish government
$3 million. The total cost is
expected to be $93.5 million and
the clean-up project will start right
away, according to NIB.
Modernisation of the plant will improve
the environment in Norway,
Sweden and Finland as well as Russia.
NIB also expects the investments
to have a positive effect on
the whole of the regional economy.
(Nordic Council & Council of Ministers,
Information Department, 20
March 2002).

According to the photographer in the link, the money goes to Moscow and basically stays there.

I thought it was a real quality photograph.

Bah humbug - I've got many of your shots marked as faves, and that means either my taste sucks, or your don't suck. And if you say my taste sucks, buddy, I'm going to call the Sopranos on you (see thread below regarding found brass outrigger)! :-)

I will not be leaving Team Sucks either, I suck sooo bad that I'm not sure I'm worthy of being here. I don't post much but I'm here reading the forum everyday. I haven't put in to challenges the last week or so as nothing has challenged my mind, but when I do I know that I will suck. I have been doing the 30 day b/w and hopefully that will bring my suck level up.

No way am I going to leave TS either - this is my DPC home.
Anything else is just a side venture.

raish - that was a cool photo, very desolate.

But I will be taking a few short vacations from everything this summer.
Littlest ankle biter needs some day surgery next month, so that will keep me busy for a few days.
July and August both have 5-day long family camping trips for us.

Hopefully the camping trips will allow me some good photos to show though.

The 30-day challenges are one of the best aspects of DPC! I participated in a 30 day Macro and 30 days Where You Live, and both got me out and about with my camera much more than the weekly challenges.

You can call the Sopranos on me but there is one thing you have to understand. I have an Uncle Vito. I always tell people that if they're not careful, Uncle Vito will have a talk with them and then everything will be very clear.

I hear they can sew the thumbs back on if you're quick enough.

I have to agree with this. I have gotten a lot of great constructive critisism in the B/W 30 day and I have learned different aspects of this type of photography. Plus no stress of watching my photo tank lol.

that is so true I love the no stress part of them. No DNMC, and no WTF were you thinking when you took this. Just great people saying either good shot, or giving you great ideas on how to make the shot better.

Heh! No DNMC?? You'll have to check my post for today... :-)

Back when I submitted to the Triptych challenge, I said I was taking a risk I'd never taken before, but I didn't say what it was.

The risk was being DQ'd, and it came to fruition today. I wasn't trying to be DQ'd. I was trying to make the best possible triptych that I could within the rules, but the rules are vague about what exactly you can do with your three pictures. Instead of taking the safe route of a black background, I decided to use one of my three pictures as the background also. I was still clearly in the spirit of "triptych", showing something from three perspectives in order to create one bigger perspective.

Anyway, this makes me feel happy. Not because I agree with the SC decision. I don't, and their official ruling doesn't explain their reasoning anyway. I'm happy because I didn't let fear of something as silly as a "DQ" keep me from participating fully. It wasn't easy for me to do, believe it or not.

Jeffrey, sorry to not answer your question. Yes, OYNC is needed now more than ever!

Good for you, Don. As you can see from the comments, many people appreciated your image, including me.

Sometimes I need to push the boundaries a bit myself. I often send thoughts to the SC beforehand to ask whether they think something will be okay. I even sent them several examples from the last triptych challenge to be sure they'd all be legit, and one of them was the inspiration for my own entry.
