I am borrowing a converter lens from a friend. Do you lose any of your picture by using these or are they a good solution to buying a new lens.
Thanks, Jeremy |

Do you mean an extender? Or is it something like a filter you attach to the front of the lens?

Any extra glass you introduce into an optical system will degrade quality. It is just a matter of how much you lose. |

I think you mean a tele-converter. What Raziel said is true. But, with a good one, you could hardly notice.

I often use some additional lens for macro but not the tele-converter. I think that for not professional use the macro-lens (+1,+2,+4,+10) are a good solution because it have a low price. for professional use aren't the best solution. the tele-->wide converter have most problems. |

Thanks guys, I tried a teleconverter this afternoon and did not like it. You lose your auto focus and it is very hard to focus manually in my opinion.

The better teleconverters allow you to still use AF. I have a Sigma 2X EX DG, costs a bit more, but if you really need it.......

There was a fresh thread about this subject a couple of days ago. You lose a couple of stops of light with a 2X, which would make it difficult to manual focus if you are not using a tripod. I have used one, and have one by Vivitar which has a macro focusing feature, allowing very close shooting and it works well for me.
