Wow, thanks! I don't often get time to give a lot of photographic feedback, and looked for another way to contribute to Team Suck.

Do any of the suck teams have room for me?
05/09/2007 11:47:17 AM · #1856
I've noticed that there has been talk about allowing other members to view your challenge images beforehand. Is this acceptable as long as they don't vote on them?

For people asking to be in Team Spleen, we can't all squeeze into this little team! Please start organizing your own teams. Some people have already been invited due to earlier private discussions. If anyone drops off we'll invite more. But small team! Don't wait for us! And don't feel the need to keep it in Team Suck. This is separate from Team Suck and it will migrate into separate threads and not be a part of this thread, for those who are annoyed by it. (qv. Kelly's UnderFive)

No worries, Don. I got an invite to join a team that seems to have an excellent mindset.

I have received very few comments on my Free Study. Could some people comment on it and let me know what they think?

Yah, you are allowed to discuss your entries with dpl teammates, and they've rigged it so that you *can't* vote on your team's entries. Or so I understand it.

they didn't like my photos and didn't want them in the last issue of jpgmag. for the second time already.
life is not worth living anymore,
or maybe that mag is not worth visiting it?

yeah, I have voted for all the TSers there
:)

They didn't like mine either... oh well. It's still fun though. From their email - We received 10,633 photos submitted by 6,727 people for this issue . I think the chances of actually getting published are pretty slim there. What I don't understand about them, if they say they want unedited photos, yet it seems like that's all they have are very edited photos.

Bah, they're philistines obviously, don't worry about it Svetlana your art will find its home.

Thanks Mary I was a bit scared to jump in the pool but it seems I accidentally clicked something 'cos I ended up in it.

Please don't jump to any conclusions about your AWESOME photography due to response in JPG mag. One of my photos has only two "yeahs" out of like twenty views. (Of course it may just be a sucky photo, but your photos are anything but.) Since they encourage friends to vote on your images, I suspect there's a bit of "whomever sends out the most e-mails to their friends wins" mindset.

yep, they are just not able to understand our art Kelli:)
I just thought I had chances since I got around 60-70 faves... oh well
the most important is that real people like our photos, not some silly mags.
I agree about editing there, but whatever...

thank you Bobbie! thank you Catherine!

I've got a great idea for "Silky Smooth", hopefully I can pull it off.

Side note, my Sports entry is doing well. I received a fav which always brightens the day. Considering I used my manual focus lens I am quite happy.

Umm...that rigging comment is not correct, I don't think.....but they can filter patterns and tell if you're "Vote Saturating" or that kind of thing.

I hardly see how they could keep you from voting on entries of your teammates when, in theory, you don't know whose they are, so how could you vote them higher?

As far as previewing, it's an honesty thing, just be careful and in my case, I try not to consult with anyone at DPC if at all possible. That keeps the perception of impropriety down.

I dunno.......a lot of this is losing its attraction for me with all this rampant activity that seems to be all about the scores.

I retract my interest in a DPL team as I'm trying more to refine what I'm doing as far as my skills and subject/composition go, and I think a team responsibility would take away from that.

Not that anyone's exactly beating down my door to join a team or anything....8>)

From the DPL Rules:

9 - Can I vote on my team's entries?
No, they are treated like your own, ie displayed at the end of the last thumbnails page for each challenge.

ooohhhhh I got pulled out of the pool by some high flyers with awesome scores, I'm really really scared now, I knew I shouldn't have ventured outside the safety of Team Suck, it scares me out there. I've pm'd the leader to let him know I'm given to random acts of DPC unfriendly creativity so we'll see what happens I guess.

Thanks to all for the comments. A few of you said it would be a great Vanishing Point shot. That's what generally happens to me. I take a shot one day, and the next day a challenge begins that my shot would fit perfectly.

Just my stinkin' luck.

The DPL Out of Focusers are accepting members - preferably team suck members that are not interested in ruthless competition.
05/09/2007 01:08:45 PM · #1874
see, what actually happened is that your shot inspired the powers-that-be to create the new challenge ;-)

I have no doubt you will reveal another nifty vanishing!
