Why's everyone hating on f/22... is that not a stop between 16 and 32?

Right, going from 32 to 22 is one stop, 22 to 16 is another (square roots of the powers of 2: sqrt(1024)=32; sqrt(512)=22.6; sqrt(256)=16), so you quadruple the amount of light, but then by halving shutter speed(from 1/2 second to 1/4 second), you're cutting that in half; hence, twice the exposure. Maybe we're all being tricked by this question...

i'd like partial credit on number 6...

if you move around the wheel, it's D... if you turn the wheel clockwise, the top color follows C...

so there... i'm scoring mine a 75%...

I just don't understand why you'd *reduce* the exposure time when adding a filter?

It's not a matter of "time" but rather of total light. You can use a faster shutter speed and still get more light if you open the aperture enough.

Basically, you add the changes together to get the change in stops. And then remember that a stop more light means doubling the light.

So to get 8 times as much light, you could do either of these:
- double the shutter speed, like go from 1/2s to 1/4s (-1 stop of light) AND increase the aperture by 4 stops

-halve the shutter speed, like go from 1/2s to 1s (+1 stop of light) AND increase the aperture by 2 stops

The upshot is to choose the effect you want: stop motion vs. blur (choose shutter speed, let aperture go where it needs), or deep DOF vs. shallow (choose aperture and let shutter speed go where it needs).

SO. Cindi, what do they claim is the right answer to #2?

ok, I quit. =]

edit: ... Although ... If I could find a filter that would double the speed of my lens, I wouldn't complain... =D

I know a few people that I've run into over the years that would score 100% on that test but still can't take a single good picture.

They say "D" 1/4 second at f/16

There was probably just a typo in the question, either on the forum or on the actual test:

"Applying this filter to the initial exposure reading of 1/2 second at f/32"

The 1/2 second probably was meant to say 1/8 or 1/4. Or there was a typo in the answers.

1. A
2. C
3. A
4. B
5. D
6. D
7. A
8. B
9. C
10. A

My shot at it...

wow, good luck with the test...I had looked into this a while back but just don't have the time for the commitment in the studying.

HA, I am totally average.

Just great.

A 'C'? Now you really failed. :p Anything below 60% is an 'F'.

Well Ms. Idnic,

You have already shown from your photos here that you are a professional photographer....you have the qualities they can't teach, heart and creativity.

Thank you, Doug. What a kind thing to say. Honestly I'm not too worried about the portfolio portion of the certification, though I will take my time and choose very carefully. What I'm worried about is that whopper test and the fact that only 2 people in my state are qualified to administer the test, so it may take a while before I can get it scheduled. Once I pay my test fee, I'll have 2 years to pass the test - so I can keep trying if I don't pass the first time through.

Well I took the test and then found the answers and graded myself... Let's just say maybe I should get into some books.... I only got #s 4, 5, and 10 right. Boy I suck.
