a friend offered to sell me an old vivitar lense for canon.
the lense is Vivitar series1- 35mm-85mm f2.8 auto and he wants to sell it for about $50
The question is can I use such a lense on a canon 350D? (the lense is not AF but I don't mind fixing the focus by hand when ever I will want to use it
tnx

If it is an "FD" lens it won't work without a special adapter.

If you wanted to use old Manual Focus lenses, you should have bought a Nikon or Pentax. :)

With a cheap adapter (M42 to EOS) you can use old manual Pentax glass on your digital.

The lens was used on a canon AE1
the thing is I don't know if such a lens could damage the camera in any way.
I just thought that such a lens could be fun to play with for such a cheap price

The Canon AE1 is FD mount, you need an EOS mount. You will need to be very creative to mount that lens on your camera.

Does the Vivitar have a screw mount fitted, if so then it is an M42 and you can buy an adapter on ebay for a few dollars/pounds/euros etc. Tamron use adaptall 2 mounts which are a compatible adapter that fits on M42 screw mount and are dedicated to a particular camera.

May well be worth checking out the lens. I use an M42 adapter - cost £1.99 plus p&p - for Pentax and can use all M42 lenses. That means anything from Tamron to Leica. That is some choice and well worth the investment.

As i said the lens is vivitar with the fd mount couldn't the fd mount be removed and replaced by an eos mount?
If it's to much trouble I might just give this deal a miss.
I really don't know much about lemses but my friend said that when he got the lens years ago they asked him if he neded a mount for canon, nikon or minolta and then fixed him with a canon mount for his AE1

I think that will be a lot of work, you will also need to source an EOS mount. Just get a M42 to EOS adapter and buy some nice Pentax glass.
