Would like TS to weigh in on some outtakes from my triptych entry, if any of you get a chance - and also one single-shot I worked up as a result of my triptych efforts. I like what I decided to enter, but I had so many variations on the theme I'm interested to know what you guys think about the other possibilities. Thanks in advance for any input...

Thanks for finding that - I was doing some searching last night but I guess I needed to expand my search to include geese, huh? And from what I read on one of those links, they can have clutches of nine, so maybe they are all from one mom.
The things you learn at DPC! |
This be mom (or auntie) and she certainly does look like an Egyptian goose. (And yes, for DPC purposes, I know it sucks because I don't have the whole goose in the picture. Shoot me. :-) ) |

I must have missed that one in your portfolio - that's an even better shot to get an ID from - sure does look like an Egyptian goose! Cropping it the way you do just highlights the body and head all the more - having the "whole goose" is overrated. See this great non-goose example:

Heh. Nope. I've sold four prints total via DPC: two each of
(sold one of these on eBay, too)
and
I'm really getting rich, lemme tell ya. Total profit from DPC is now $13.82, and I think I lost $1 or so on the eBay sale.

Okay......I'm braced....and I'm asking for no-holds-barred critique 'cause I was really puzzled by how this did.
I know it's a somewhat narrow range of interest.....you have to know high performance, cars, and have a fair amount of specific knowledge to appreciate how well designed and powerful the car is to be able to pull the front wheeels off the ground.....it's also a rare and valuable car.
I just thought it was a cool picture, but it seemed to get middle of the road votes.

formerlee pokes his head around the door, then creeps in quietly.
Okay, guys! Hands up, I did bite a bit too hard last night. Maybe I should have spent a little time trying to explain myself more clearly regarding OOB shots, but others have done it for me to a certain extent. Mary's examples are great at OOB shots that meet the challenge and I can accept them as creative entries. It is the ones that are shoehorned in, with little concern for challenge details, and the poster stating that it will confuse people, but it is so OOB. That's what I was trying to say. :(
I have been in Team Suck for a long time now and like the people here, also I learn alot, without talking too much. My reference last to American/Non American is simple...when an American member offers an opinion, it is discussed...but this is where I went wrong, it isn't American/Non American, it is when I suggest something. I can be abrasive and short, this often comes through in my postings and I guess I rub people up the wrong.
Okay, can I get up now, my knees hurt from all the grovelling? And, sorry guys! |

Use those kneepads, over there in the cupboard - that's why we have 'em. :D
No offense taken on my part - glad to see you didn't leave.

hey formerlee, if that's all you meant, then keep an eye on OOBIE nominations and keep us honest! In fact, I'll even give you a title...
I now dub thee THE OOBINATOR!!! You are officially empowered to make snide comments on shoehorns pretending to be oobies.... |

Hey guys, I got my first ever comment from Larus and it was actually a good one - and a good score! Cool! |

Also, Mr. OOBINATOR, feel free to nominate what you feel are appropriate OOBIEs, - meets the challenge in a creative way but was generally unnoticed in the "glitz" of dpchallenge.
I can't nominate skewsme everytime - otherwise someone will think there are bribes involved. |

I just knew those kneepads would get brought up again.

Just to keep the kneepads thing going, I noticed, too. :P
Oh, formerlee, I did want to respond to your thinking that American ideas get discussed. I think we all post things that get flown over by whatever other simultaneous conversations are going on.
Several people have posted that they feel ignored at times. It's just the nature of a chaotic multi-topic multi-participant thread like this.
So it's not that you're not American. It's really just you. ;)

LOL. I misread what kashi was asking in my initial post, so I was explaining this instance, not an earlier one. I then realized what she'd asked about, so erased it.
Anyway, changing the subject radically, I'm pleased to announce that Seriously Six took 2nd out of a whopping 12 images on another site's "Indoor Shots" contest.

krnodil - that mad cat picture of yours cracks me up every time I see it. :-) And the way you have it presented in your post, with the full shot then the different versions below it, is actually very cool!

You guys are just too funny!!!!
I try and take the one-eyebrow, mouth-breathing, Neanderthal, chauvinistic bent out of the drags and all you can say is, "Where's the nekkid chick on the hood?".
I love you guys!
I had a great time at the drags......it had been a while and I was glad to see that old dinosaur in such good shape and so many young women involved in the sport.
I realize now it's a very narrow spectrum of interest, though.
Maybe I'll try Roller Derby next!....8>)

It surely is an attention-getter isn't it? I jumped a little when I first came across it scanning my raw files from that particular shoot - Barney has a mean yawn! Pure serendipity by the way - I was just taking some cat pictures for no particular reason (the bored look on his face is him patiently waiting for me to put the darn camera down and *pet* him) and ended up with 2 nightmarish yawn shots that gave me an idea for Triptych. |
