I am seeing many of you have used it while taking photograph. what exactly we get if we use it? if some can post a set of photographs showing the difference would be helpful. :)

Lens flares and protecting the glass, and to put stickers on.

protecting the glass is my main reason for using them they are much better than a cheap UV filter.

Alot of my pictures are taken during my lunch break when the sun is brightest. I've found it helps to cut back on some of the light (minimally, but it came with the camera, might as well use it). Also, and more importantly IMO, if you don't own any gigantic lenses it makes you look more pro to passersby. :)

A lens hood shades the lens from stray light that may result in an unwanted discoloration or hazing of the image, or the appearance of lens flare. Shading your lens helps improve contrast and image quality. I think the camera meters more accurately, with a hood on the lens.

You don't put 'scratch and sniffs' on your lens hoods? Girl you don't know how to use your equipment. ;P

I have short term memory loss, and it helps me to remember which end of the lens to point at the....................something.
They actually do help with flare and metering.

LMAO. You're talking to the same person that uses her Lightsphere to serve chips and dip.

I use my lens hood to protect my lens cap. Those genuine Canon lens caps are expensive and I hate lossing one and having to use a generic. Generics look so un-professional.

;)
