I didn't comment on your "Keeping Eggs Warm" shot, pits, but I gave it an 8. Those eggs gotta be pretty warm to survive - I know it's hotter than I would want my house to be! And, that's a pretty real-looking, ugly pidgeon to me.

There are a lot of good photos in this challenge. I gave a lot of high scores because I felt that they were well deserved. I haven't made any comments yet because I was short of time when I voted, but I will be going back and adding my comments, however insignificant they may be.
By the way, OneSweetSin...I just went and viewed your flag photo. It was very nice. Had I been a member at the time of that challenge, I would have given it at least an 8. |

seems to me, alot of people just took a plain ol photo, and converted it to black and white and thought it was 'contrasts' ..
not saying a b&w can't be contrast - of course it can - but just taking a pic of something random and converting it to B&W doesn't automatically make it fit the 'contrasts' challenge...
just my opinion

Yes I am still a bit bitter over that! |
I think we ought to have a flag challenge, then maybe they would get the one thing out of their mind. |
LOL Dick and if we have a flag challenge yes I will make mine an american flag! So all those Anti Americans can give me a one and then they can't say it is cause they don't think it fits the challenge! They will have to admit it is cause they are anti American! |

But shows slightly more thought than the usual 'post anything' syndrome ;) |

Being a relative newbie I am sometimes stumped for what to post. I seriously considered not submitting anything for this contest (Contrasts). My entry does not show much technical merit but I thought the goal of posting on here was to get other people's opinions; not to get a lot of other people to like my work. I don't want to become cookie cutter so that I turn out photos that everyone likes, nor do I want everyone to simply like my work. I hope that I learn to see my own work through perspectives that you all bring. I know its unreasonable to think that everyone that votes on my entries can comment as to why they did or didn't like my photo but for the ones that put a sentence or three, that's just one more person that helps me to see how my work can be perceived. Perhaps a preponderence of the community here at DPC don't like my interpretation of Temperature. Perhaps they just don't like the lack of skill I demonstrate in my composition. Either way, I take my pictures because they're my pictures. They're what I see or think of or what means something to me. Honestly, if I never get above 3 or 4 averages, I'm sure I'll be disheartened that perhaps I can't get the technical aspect of my shots to a pleasing, professional level but as to content and interpretation, score me as low as you want and I'll just keep on trying to be creative and listen to what you folks say. Hopefully, someday your comments will sink in through my thick skull and then even if I choose to not shoot the most crowd-pleasing photo, I'll still have some idea what it is that people like to see and perhaps I can do my own take off of that. Flags, nudes, puppy dogs, etc.
I find that I don't like shots of kids because they're "cute" and I'm at a place in my life where I enjoy the mature freedom (after a life of feeling socially guilty) to take whatever picture I want (if the subject agrees to it). I won't purposefully tank a kid picture but unless it is just technically superb, I probably won't score it higher than an 8. I'm sure that others out there see some shots I've taken and regardless of the technical merit of the shot, they just think I totally missed the shot that was golden.
The interaction is the part of DPC that I love the most. Sometimes its just easy to interact with people at an intellectual level about something that I feel some passion for (my photos).
Just my $0.02.

I took this as pretty much an open challenge. Just submitted something that made me happy. Perhaps I'm paying for it (low 6).

Interestingly enough, mine looks B&W, but is submitted in full color, with no editing. |

Did you say flag challenge? Did anyone suggest that in the proper forum? LOL I'm not suggesting it...I still got that chip on my shoulder from my one and only flag entry. |

Sev, I don't know why you're whining so much. Who told you people would count that picture off because it was two shades of the same color? Hmmm? Oh yeah, that was me... It doesn't mean it's an intelligent decision, but, really, why are you holding voters on DPC to higher standards than you do the general public? [Just do a flower next time and call it good, yo!] --kitty |

Magnetic, how do you know when someone is shooting in black & white intentionally, and someone has converted color to B&W? |
