Ok, I submitted for the triptych challenge, and am blank now for the symmetry. This week should be busy, since Ches has gotten me into the b/w side challenge. Thanks for the prod :) What's everyone else up to? Ches, how is the PP coming along...? |

I've got problem. I've got a great shot I just can't make up my mind whether to enter it in symetry or in the free study. If I put it into the symetry challenge I'll have to reprocess it to meet basic rules. We'll see. |

The post process of the last photoshoot, has been driving me nuts. I'm ready to be done with it. I don't have anything for triptych or symetryk though I do have one in Free-study.
I don't so much care about the scores anymore (we're not in league play yet) If I can finish up the pp this morning, maybe I'll look into triptych. |

Ches, I used to have the same problem when I would do a shoot for someone and take hundreds of pictures, and then get so bombarded by all of the PP that I would take a month or two off from shooting anything because I had spent soooooo much time in front of the computer. Or, I would still shoot, but really limit myself on what I would shoot. Then I started forcing myself to learn more about batch processing. Now, I take hundreds of photos for any one subject, but I make sure to pay close attention to my camera settings, shoot in raw, include a grey card in each setting to set the WB, and then create an action in photoshop to process them all quickly while I am off doing other stuff. The whole thing maybe takes 1 hour instead of 1 month. After that, I burn a CD of all but the worst images, give them to my client and have them decide on a selection of photos that they would like processed further to remove blemishes, convert to b/w, etc. It took a while to get down, but once I did, that freed up a ton of time and made shooting for money much more enjoyable. |

That sounds exactly like what I need. But there is so much technically I still have issues with. Settings on the camera, grey card??? I DID make my first Action in CS2 today (Image upsizing)
Any lessons appreciated :)

I will see if I can get something put together some time this week. With my vacation a week ago and a huge sale at work the last three days and tomorrow, I'm pretty backed up right now. But I should get caught up by next Sunday. Then we'll have to see if we can get online and chat about what you are doing so we can get a better feel for both of our strenghts and weaknesses, and then go from there. |

My entry in free study has 74 votes and is sitting right around 5.3. I am not disappointed oe frustrated, I still personally love the photo.
I just displayed my 3rd in the 30 day B&W side challenge. |

I think I'm about ready to give up. I have my third entry in a two week period in voting right now, and it is getting slaughtered by the voters once again. Maybe I'm arrogant, because I get really really upset if my photo finishes in the lower 1/2 of the challenge entries because I know I am much better than that.

My resent have been lac-luster though my Sym is hanging around a 6.
Mentioned a local bluegrass festival to my other half for a potential cultural event shot and she broke out in hives. So we'll see what happens.

Noticing a distinct loss of momentum here.
I have to really think about what the ratings here mean. Does being in the top 10% mean I'm GREAT?!?!? that I'm better than everyone else. No it doesnt' it means I got a good shot and people like it. Not ME, IT.
Same side does being in the bottom half mean I'm not a good photographer? Well for some maybe when it's consistant and they don't learn anything from it. However.... It's when you look at the pictures you are taking today vs the pictures you took last year or even the year before. Are you improving? I know mine are. GREATLY despite the 4's and barely 5's I seem to garner.
Another thing you can't do... is compare your score to other people here and consider yourself average because you have an average rating of 5. Ok 5 may be average here, but a 5 here is a 12 out in the real world.
I know for those of you I talk to all the time, that it's very very easy to get disappointed in yourself because people here don't "get" your photos. Well remember one we are a global community, and some people have different tastes. Also we are very diverse in ages as well. And while anyone can take a great picture, what you see in yours because of your expierences in life is very different from what they may see in it.
You all do great work. We just gotta remember it's not the score that counts, it's the growth.
Yeah ok this is for WPL or DPL, so we're going to compete. BUT I hope for some of you anyway, it's more than that. It's someplace to bounce ideas and get honest answers and have a place to see yourself in a different light.

Once again Ches, well said. Thanks for taking so much time, again, to rein us in. I agree with what you said, and I for one wanted to join a league to learn. And I feel I'm already benefiting from the input I'm getting. Thanks! |

I am sitting here watching my FS photo stagnate at 5.3. To counteract that, I am being very active in the 30 day B&W side challenge, and I am involved in one of the Photoshop 101 threads.
How about the rest of you? |

Well I've got a 5.69 in symmetry, and I too have been busy with the B&W challenge. However have fallen very far behind in commenting. |

I'm at work. I'm always at work! :) I am a Finance Manager for a Toyota and Honda dealership, so I am always busy busy busy. I have a shot sitting around 5.4 in the FS challenge, and am brainstorming for ideas for the sports challenge to see what is coming up that I'll be able to make it to.

Hi, I've been busy in the b/w challenge also. Go Team! Other than that, I'm probably not going to be doing any submissions for this week's upcoming challenges. But my triptych image is holding at 5.3 and the symmetry is about 5.6. So really good for me! I try not to place too much emphasis on something that I'm just doing for fun. Anyone thinking up something fun for Dr. Seuss? Can't wait to see imagination run amok! |

I'm a little bummed about the sports challenge. It was announced a day after I shot the Lacross game I shot Tues afternoon. All of the local high school games were road games, sooo, I'm going to have to sit this one out. Really to bad too, I love to shoot sports. |

Well MY FS is sitting around 5.8 and triptych just over 5.
Next week I've got one in cultural events, and one in Dr. Seuss. And I'm part of the 30 day B/W. Have to admit I really like B/W.
Other than is just work and family.
We should have more info about the DPL tonight, I'll keep watch and set stuff up soon as I can. |
