One of my favorite times to shoot is during dusk and dawn. I think most landscape photographers would agree. But where and when do we get the most dusk and dawn time to work with?

I'm on the hunt for a prime location with the maximum dusk/dawn time, anywhere in the world. Maybe if we all post our favorite location/month spots, we can make a list of the places where it's ideal to be shooting.

The website Gaisma covers the whole world, and you will find your location there. Check the timetable, and post your data.

Currently I'm in Bodø,Norway
DDT Graph
DDT (Dusk/Dawn Time): 6 hours

The most time I've found in this region is Tromsø, Norway
DDT Graph
DDT: 9 hours
Month: November

What DDT do you have where you love to shoot?

Happy shooting y'all!

Graph for Oakland, California.

This shows that the Dawn-to-Dusk time is some 57 minutes longer than the Sunrise-to-Sunset time ...

Another useful site is the US Naval Observatory's Sun and Moon calculator. Here is the comparable output from there -- seems to show the same info:

Aha, this is why the icelanders get so many good photos. They live in the land of eternal twighlight! My sister was there a few years back, and walked home one 'night' after clubbing. At 2am, it was still light.

Imagine that - 24 hours of prime photography time.

My town only rates 25 minutes each end, and I'm afraid sunrise is just before stupid-o-clock in the morning, so I never see that end. Dusk is spent getting 3 kids bathed and ready for dinner, so I don't see much of that end either. :)

Great website though! I'll check out some potential holiday spots.

It's when you can be out shooting a sunset, the light drops about 12 stops until i slowly start climbing up again, all the way to sunrise.
This gives you a non-stop 5-6 hours shooting session with magical light.

Unfortunately, it only happends twice a year here. Those are the weeks I take vacation, to go camping and shooting.

I'm sure people in Canada, Alaska, south Chile and argentina experience similar types of light sessions. Check out the antartica graph! It's wicked.

If we all post our graph, we can list and rank them, and create a light-travel guide.

Goto gaisma, find your city and post your DDT time!
