The old timers will be able to tell - Are weekend voters more kind?

Usually they tend to be more kind. Maybe cause they're "under the influence" by that time of the week. ;) Then again this has been a weird challenge score wise, so anything is possible from this point forward. I think someone is playing mind games with us. :)

This is my first challenge entry too and very humbling at the same time. I am holding a 5.0662 at 151 votes, lol. But based on everyone else's comments in here, a score of 5 or better is not a bad score on a first attempt. I think I should have lurked for awhile before jumping right in :p

I am new to this whole deal so would someone explain what makes the points/score go down and what is the underlying concern. I have just jumped in and entered my first "right sized" image so I am trying to understand what it's all about.

Its unbeliveable When people here are commenting on how other people vote and when they are pasting their status in the forums I think its nobodys bissnes but their own how they vote. So please Get a life!

I think what tarique meant was that a person who does not enter or comment hasn't really got a lot of solid ground to stand on when commenting that generally and collectively a challenge is full of crap. He might be right, or he could be wrong..either way he's allowed to make that observation and I think its a fair one.

On topic however, my score has fallen .10 in the last 24hrs so I'd like to know who's sabotaging me!! Its not like I was close to a ribbon. ;)

I cant see that he himself has posted any pic´s

There will certainly be ups and downs the more people vote. The more people vote the better your chance to go much lower or much higher....unless of course they all vote the same.

true, and you can make that observation about him too, and its fair. But it doesn't get any of us any further ahead.

Frisca...you are missing the point
07/21/2003 04:26:18 PM · #69
missing the point of this thread? I thought we were lightheartedly complaining about the usual DPC voting patterns of ups and downs, and I sadly, am experiencing a down.

However, it was starting to get caustic, and I was merely trying to steer away from that. We all will make assessments of those who give us comments and lend them weight according to our assessments. To complain about votes/comments yet not enter challenges, or give low votes or not comment will make your complaints less weighty, however valid or true.

Have I still missed the point? :) (I don't think I can put in enough smilies to indicate that I'm merely discussing, and don't wish to rub anyone the wrong way)

Did you add some detail when you edited this Naz? ;)

Sorry Frisca....just meant, yes it would be nice for all of us to score higher....but the fact is if you have 10 nines and then 50 other votes come in as 2 or threes, then of course your score will go down. No way to truly get any kind of average until the voting is done. It may get up our hopes too high, or maybe depress us at the beginning because they are too low..then they could shoot up!! No offense or anything like that intended....:)

Only to a certain point. This thread was started at about 140 votes, and the last '12-24 hours' represented the 100th - 140th votes approx.
Now 100 votes out of maybe 300 total is 1/3rd of the population, in statistical terms that is huge, and one could be reasonably confident that the score shouldn't change much. Especially considering we are all voting on the same pictures.
07/21/2003 06:56:47 PM · #73
that's what I thought too, brett, which is why I was suprised at the sudden drop in about 20-25 votes. Oh well, so goes the voting..sometimes the early voters like your stuff and sometimes its the later.

Stewan: glad we're still smiling! You're right, I know its about averages, but we all hope the highs last forever and the lows never come. ;)

I hear ya! I am relatively new here so don't mean to step on toes either....stats do represent the overall grade. Doesn't mean you or I have crap out here or the next great thing....I'm just having fun!
07/21/2003 07:17:49 PM · #75
brettd: Shouldn't change the stats that much after that percentage unless they are all 1's or all 9's
