And to have an option for no PMs. |
There's something I hadn't thought of, but then I DO respond to PM's, unlike some other Johns out there. |

I dont check my email daily as I need to use dial up for my emails only. If you get a validation request does it go the same way as the PM's. I dont shoot good enough for validation requests but I just realised that I may not check in the time required and then be DQ'd. |

It goes to your email but there's also a notice on the left hand side of the home page when you log into DPC.

Do you have Outlook or Outlook Express?
You can set them up to check your gmail account.
What I have done is set up a gmail account just for DPC (rexdpc at gmail dot com) and in Outlook I have a folder titled DPC. Then a rule that anytime a message comes through that email address it goes into the DPC folder. Easy organization.

yes, but I can't set it up at work because the ports that gmail uses are blocked by the firewall. I guess I could use it from home and just try to catch up when I get there. yeah, dunno. no perfect answers, as usual. thanks for the suggestion though. |

I wasnt aware that Gmail used other then standard POP3 ports. Did not have to configure anything when i set it up in Outlook. Of course thunderbird has built in settings which may differ. |

It says here to use 995 and 465, I guess I'm not sure whether these are standard or not, but when I tried to set it up it wouldn't retrieve messages from here. |

Echoing what kirbic said, I, too, think the idea has its merits. However, right now, Langdon is busy trying to get everything ready for WPL. Bring it back up in a few weeks and maybe we can rehash it out. |

Yeah, at this point I'm just looking for a temporary way around the problem. Thanks! |

It's standard ports that are sometimes blocked for security by obscurity. A person should still be able to set it up using non-standard ports. |

And to have an option for no PMs. |
Yup all forums based on vBulletin have the folowing options
- Email Notify (On or Off)
- Recieve from admin (or not) might think the or not is a bad idea but its not keep breaking the rules ull just get banned anyways.
- Recieve from users (or not)
And its internal |
This isn't a vBulletin site. |

Im pretty sure I know that. I was just stating a very popular system for sites that spend money rather then write their own.
I use SMF for my forums, i modify and write add ons but im not quite ready to write that much from scratch. Besides SMF salts the MD5 encryption which makes it about 4 times harder then it already is to crack the password side of the login.
Not sure how vBulletin and other sites handle their encryption.
PHP has many other flaws but a few ar ehandled using strip tags and strip slashses to help prevent code injection.

Keeping them on site with a flag to indicate when a new message was in would be a VERY welcome upgrade. I still find PM's in my spam folder no matter what permissions, etc I have set, and have had members say they have sent messages, but never made it before my eyes. AT&T/Yahoo web-based mail is ok, but has some issues. |

that is an amazing idea.
make it possible to turn the feature on, off (no PMs), e-mail notification, and a nice little "inbox - new messages (1)" by our "welcome back, _____" symbol.
of course, it's easy for me to sit here and say all this would be great when i have no idea how to code that. so...powers that be. start coding ;)
just playing. kudos to whoever integrated the DPL. if you can do that, and as seemless as it appears to be...and working GREAT I might add...then this messaging system if decided to implement should be no problem at all.
i do really hope to see it integrated internally. i hate the e-mail client end of it. especially since we can see who's online, why not be able to private message them online (internally) as well :D
keep up the good work everyone

Brad,
I'd suggest turning off the server-side filter on the ATT/Yahoo mail, and using a client-side filter like Popfile on your end. I find that *my* having control of my filter is a better solution. A client-side filter also has the advantage of being a "specialist" not a "generalist." Explanation: the server-side filter must try to determine what's SPAM based on general rules. Your client-side filter can make decisions based on the specific types of mail you receive. The Bayesian client-side filters, like Popfile, are quite good these days. Popfile is also free :-) |

A 'no pm' option would be nice as would being able to view them within the site. |

I'd love to see them in-site too

I use the PM system a good deal and while it'd be nice to have it include the original message in your reply, I like it the way it is. Just sayin'. :) |
