Hello Friends,

I need some of your expertise. I use both Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop 7. I'd like to know if there is a setting on the selection tool (marquee?) where you can specify the aspect ratio of the rectangle selection (ie. 1.3333:1 for a 640x480 / .75:1 for a 480x640). This would help greatly when cropping for the challenges. Right now I take a selection that looks approximately right and crop it. Then I have to resize it slightly bigger and then crop again when I have the right dimensions.
It would be nice to have a rectangle that is just right so the cropping process would be more precise.
Confused yet? Help!

In Photoshop, after selecting the Marquee tool you can select "constrained aspect ratio" from the drop-down in the toolbar that appears up top. From there just put 640 in one box and 480 in the other, depending on which side you want to be the long side.

In PSP the cropping tool allows you to set any size and ratio. Make sure you have the proper toolbar open (->View ->Toolbars -->Tool Palette), and the sizing options appear on the Tool Palette's option bar whenever you select the Crop tool.

Wow, thanks guys. This is going to save me a lot of time and aggravation. Sometimes I'd get the perfect crop, from a composition point of view, just to find out the aspect ratio was way out of whack. Thanks :)
