Ooops - looks like I'm late to the party (as always . .)
- What you feel your PS skill level is
Average
- Your version of PS
PS Elements 4- if that's too basic for this group just say so
- Your desired guidelines for the workshop - i.e. focus primarily within basic and advance editing rules OR DPC rules should be secondary to learning Photoshop
not really interested in keeping within a ruleset
- Any specific lessons or techniques you would like to cover
blending modes confuse me, also knowing what I'm doing with curves, oh and using dodge/burn correctly
All that Nuzzer said and a few things besides . . I'm happy to learn anything extra to be honest.

quick replies:
Jedusi: I told you I have zero tolerance for tardiness. You must wear the plaid skirt. ;-)
RE: all the "can I join?" posts: Yes. As mentioned earlier, this will be an open forum since it didn't seem to be a problem when Bear did it that way. I'll lay out a few ground rules when I launch the official worshop thread later tonight.
RE: Popcorn: No eating in class unless you brought enough for everyone. ...and don't get the keyboard all buttery. :P
RE: Art/Ken/Art confusion: I am Art. Or, as my old man used to say when I was a kid: "some piece of work".
RE: New thread, link here: will do.
Ok, sorry, but I have to go back to work. I'll kick off the workshop thread late this evening, but for all intents and purposes, class will start Tomorrow morning. |

- What you feel your PS skill level is: Basic/Beginner
- Your version of PS: I have been using Elements 3.0 but I just purchased CS 3 and it should be arriving shortly.
- Your desired guidelines for the workshop: DPC rules should be secondary to learning Photoshop but I would like to know what is acceptable with regards to the DPC rules.
- Any specific lessons or techniques you would like to cover: I'd like to be able to do edits like this:

Ken, taking you at yoour word to just drop on in.
- What you feel your PS skill level is: Basic/Beginner
- Your version of PS: I have both Elements and CS 2. Primarily I use CS2.
- Your desired guidelines for the workshop. DPC rules should be very much secondary to learning Photoshop However, it'd be great just to note what does not fit into the DPC rules.
- Any lessons or techniques you find particularly needed in the DPC forum. I'd like to concentrate on what can be done to improve each particular photo (shadow/highlight, levels, etc).It seems this is what I just don't see.
Jeanne
Thanks much. |

What you feel your PS skill level is: Beginning - I've used crop, brightness, contrast and resize. I have used clone stamp to touch-up family photos. I have used layers to color-in, label and add arrows for teaching purposes.
- Your version of PS: Photoshop Elements 4 (I hope that this is sufficient for this group)
- Your desired guidelines for the workshop. I'm ready to learn more
- Any lessons or techniques you find particularly needed in the DPC forum. I'm ready to learn more

Sunniee , thank you for your kind offer, but believe me people would rather see your legs than mine :- ) I've even had to get the Lederhosen cut to ankle length and they kinda chaff - has anyone got any cyber-talc out there??
I hope it's not just me dressing up . .

I don't know if I'm too late to jump in but I would really like to join this Photoshop class. If I'm not too late here are some informations about my level.
- What you feel your PS skill level is
Close to zero but I'm using Photoshop Lightroom more and more so I'm familiar with the concepts of saturation, curve, tone adjustment and other things I can do easily in Lightroom. I'm also kinda familiar with the concept of layers in technical drawing (AutoCAD) which is probably miles away from the layers in Photoshop but still.
- Your version of PS
CS2
- Your desired guidelines for the workshop - i.e. focus primarily within basic and advance editing rules OR DPC rules should be secondary to learning Photoshop
I think DPC rules should be secondary with only side mentions about them once in a while. I think peoples are bright enough to find what they can do with each kind of ruleset.
- Any specific lessons or techniques you would like to cover
I would like to know more about the advanced stuff like blending two images (2 times the same person on the frame) and other advanced stuff that I can't do using Photoshop Lightroom. |

Will the eventual course thread be here in "out and about" (which seems a rather strange place, but as I'm rather strange myself, I kind of like it), or will it be elsewhere? Or did I already miss the link (I have a vision that I am sitting in a room waiting for the rest of the class when everyone else is somewhere else)?
Don't worry about me, I'm always a bit confused.

The rest of us have drifted into the kitchen, except for a couple of people who are hand feeding the dog . . oh and the person under the stairs - but don't worry, we'll be back.
I hope you're following Art's strict dress code ?? |

No one really wants me to be dressed in any way that comes anywhere close to meeting Art's requirements. No one. Not you. Not Art. Not my wife. And definitely not my daughter (and she's only two and puts up with a lot).
I think I'd better stay dressed.

Sorry I'm late.
- What you feel your PS skill level is: Intermediate (I'd be happy to help too wherever I do have specific knowledge.)
- Your version of PS: CS and Lightroom
- Your desired guidelines for the workshop: Some topics I'd like:
o Advanced use of Curves
Honestly, even though I know how to use them including sample points, I seem to get little from them other than a quick contrast boost in PS. I've had much better luck using them in Lightroom! Seem to create artifacts less readily
o Best Keyboard shortcuts and tricks
o Rationale and Tricks using Layer Blending Modes. I do this pretty much by trial and error. I've learned certain tricks, but I don't always understand why!
o Doing perspective adjustment right. How much is right!!!? Should lines be truly straight when the camera is angled up?

Well since you left the door open I'm going to run in. ::Sees open desk in the back of the room and takes a seat::
What you feel your PS skill level is - got the basics
Your version of PS - 7 or so
Your desired guidelines for the workshop - I know the DPC rules...so the later
Any specific lessons or techniques you would like to cover - want to take what's in my head and be able to make it happen on screen...like you do

yes yes yes, all who posted are welcome.
I was going to post the workshop thread last night but DPC was inaccessible most of the night. Now the work gods have conspired against me and I am buried in projects, but I plan to get the initial thread and topic posted tonight and will rely on the other mentors to moderate the discussion for a little.
Please be patient with me - my stress level is reaching critical mass lately.
Back later this evening.

I'm not certain if I can join or not (I actually don't know how to join). If I can't join, I'll just lurk.
- What you feel your PS skill level is
Above average: I can do basic editing and touch up. I understand the power of layers. I basically know concepts but not how to change those concepts into practice. I'm playing with HDR which will take me a while to figure out since it's mostly guessing with tone mapping.
- Your version of PS
CS2. I think I started with photoshop 5. I was happy to be able to purchase 16MB of RAM ($400) in the 90s to run photoshop.
- Your desired guidelines for the workshop
Tips and tricks. Maybe even how to customize the working enviroment.
- Any specific lessons or techniques you would like to cover
Curves. It's basically a slight "S" curve for me. Otherwise, it's guessing. |

I'd like to join...sorry to be late ;-)
I'm using Photoshop Elements 5 (just got it and before I was using Paint Shop Pro XI
I'm a hit or miss on my experience. Hit on some, really miss on others.
I'd like to learn it all!!

Wow this class is getting full...maybe too full for one thread (please read on). I don̢۪t know how exactly Art et al will run this thing, but if it is loosely based on other mentor/learning threads it should involve assignments of sorts and students posting their homework and examples. So if we start this thing and everyone posts their homework and wants to comment on everyone̢۪s posts and reply to comments posted about their posted homework...I think a single thread will get a little noisy.
Suggestion: When the actual thread starts, create 3 or so of them: Photoshop 101, Group A; Photoshop 101, Group B; etc. Assign students to a specific group. Art and the additional mentors post the exact same lectures/assignments in all of the groups, so we are all getting the same info. Just like college, 8:00 Chemistry has the same lecture as 10:00 Chemistry, just not 1000 students in one lecture hall!
We students can look at all the students̢۪ homework posts (in every group) and comment wherever we would like, but should only post our homework in our assigned group. This might cut down on the number of posts with thumbnails in them, thus creating significantly smaller/more legible threads.
And as long as the lectures aren't being written off the cuff in a post, then good 'ole copy/paste might make this fairly easy.
Just a suggestion.
