3 comments, one gets it pretty well, one doesn't, one thought I was someone else, lol. a far cry from the 7.2500 at vote 4, this is still better than I expected though.

Good luck with the free study Don, can't wait to see it!

So, we have to remember to ask Don about his triptych AND his free study now. Hopefully there are photographer's notes!

I'm in Free Study. I'm happy with it.

Boy you people talk a lot I finally come back to give some belated thank yous to some wonderful people that I missed the first time around and had trouble finding them. It's kind of nice really it seems there's been a lot of water under the bridge since I decided to have myself a little meltdown.

krnodilThanks for saying my work isn't dull :D As simple as it seems I really needed to hear that. And I'm working on getting angry I do tend to work better that way but at the moment I'm just too tired and overwhelmed.

colorcarnivalYou're right it's worth it for the technicals I'm picking up, thanks. You asked if I have any of my rebellion shots in portfolio , I don't I tend to stash them in my Flickr account instead but I'll see if I can find time to throw some up today...they come with a serious suck warning though.:D

silverfoxxThank you for your words of wisdom, it is indeed like studying literature and tearing it apart. At the moment I can't take what I love to shoot to uni but I guess the time will come when my technical skills might catch up with my vision a little.

xianartThank you so much for sharing the story of Paul, it inspired me and made me realise that maybe one day I might be able to produce something worthwhile. It's a bit trippy being in a class where most of the students are half my age and I guess that's why I look at what I'm doing ans see such a huge difference to what the others are doing. I'll keep Paul in mind when I feel like a misfit.

PosthumousBrilliant as usual :D You're right it is about connection and the next time they start asking me for meaning I just might have to mention that, now that I've thought it through enough to present an argument for it. Of course there's still the issue that I'm not feeling any real connection, at least with my uni stuff but I'll trust that it will come and keep shooting.

levyj413Yep Levy you're the reason I've left responding so long you made me go of and think because I couldn't type my first response at the time to "what do YOU want to get out of photography"
I had to go back and remember why I wanted to do this and try and get in touch with that again, it was hard and I scowled at you more than once.

What I want is to touch people in some way, to show them emotions that they may be too busy to feel in their everyday lives. I want to show them freedom, purity, despair and if I could pull off awe it'd be wonderful. I want to show people the mundane world in a different light, in a way I've started that with my series of shopping centre sails at night but I don't think I've quite "got it connecting" yet. I want to make people stop and look at the world for just a minute. I want to photograph nudes but not the body beautifuls, normal everyday people treated with the respect they deserve for being beautiful in their imperfections. I want to show how extraordinary the world looks through my eyes.

It's any wonder I'm depressed.

If I've missed anyone I'm sorry and I thank you all, you have been more help than you can imagine. I can't think of a more generous and caring group of people. I'm not over it yet but I'm hanging in there, thank you sincerely for the hand up Team Suck.

Bobbie, I can't tell you how great it made me feel to know you scowled at me. Same goes for kashi's "cursing" me for making her think. :)

I throw out little thoughts that I hope help people, and knowing you actually stopped to think for a while is a fantastic reward. These aren't always easy, spur-of-the-moment answers!

Anyway, I'm with you 100% on trying to help people see the world in an unusual way. Here's one of my shots that was in that vein. This is a walkway across a parking lot in Atlanta. Hundreds (thousands?) of people walk under it every day. But the minute I saw it, I realized it offered very interesting visual angles:

then, a cousin gave me the face to read on the plane a few years ago. i remember thinking - dean koontz, didn't he write that silly aliens poisoning the water system, mind control twaddle? but i read it, and was very gld i did. the change in his writing, the quality, weight and control, is stunning. i would now count him among my favourite writers, and not just in the brain candy category, but just plain favourite.

Lightning and Watchers were both stellar IMO.

He runs hot and cold.

He's a central Pennsylvania boy made good.

His Odd Thomas series is pretty okay IMO.

Remind me not to do free studies ever again. Too much time to think/shoot/edit to get it exactly the way I want.. oh yes this is perfect I'm so happy with it I've spent forever on it I'm proud of it oh wait 4.8, poop.

Thank you Levy, toning those lights down is a good idea I'll give it a go and the idea of recoloring is something that I hadn't thought of, although it's funny what you see as waves I see as sand dunes so I might leave it B&W to allow interpretation. I'll play with it some more though.

My Free Study is on 4.3, I win :p

It's a true sucker entry actually, I really like it, it's really unusual, and I can see why the score is low too (even if I disagree :p). I had some pictures from this month that would've scored a lot higher, but where's the fun in that... :)

On a total show-off photography tangent - a picture I'm in from last night ended up on the BBC
(I'm one of the girls at the back in picture 2)

I was spinning a fire hula hoop in front of something like 1000-1500 people, and there was a proper massive cheer when I started. Life doesn't get much better than that :D

okay I know that I have read this somewhere, but can't find it. How do I post pic's in the forum?
05/01/2007 12:21:00 PM · #1366
Free Study is tough this month! I predicted a 5.8; I've got a 5.72 right now, and seems to be dropping faster than the temp in an Alaska January :-)

Have a risky shot in for symmetry. I predict love or hate. Probably the latter. Oh well - can't improve without trying new stuff, right?

When you make a post there are buttons in the upper left to help you build HTML code. The 2nd button from the right is for posting thumbnails from the dpchallenge site. You click on the button and type in the portfolio number.

I'm going to put my Symmetry entry in my portfolio rather than a challenge.... There are times when sucking, well, sucks!

Wow I haven't been able to get on to DPC for the last 12 hours and I have no fingernails left now. When I finally get back on I'm met with a red message. Oh well, I think I'll be DQ'd for stupidity and really sucky maths skills this time.

I think someone asked for validation on all the triptychs that had more than 3 frames.

Oh dear the poor SC, maybe someone should have had a look at previous Triptych challenges first.

Screw it, I'm entering the one I like best that will score the poorest. I'm on a roll....
