Enjoy the lens.

Take some shallow DOF portraits with it.

JL should give me a promo fee, for posting this link so many times...

I think 2/3 of the images in that folder were shot with that lens. It's the best place I can think of to study the perfomnace of the 85mm 1.8.

Have fun

at 1.8, obviously the dof is very shallow - just keep in mind if you're the kind of person who locks focus using the center focus point and then recomposes - you may lose focus when you recompose. This becomes more obvious when doing portraits and you see you've missed the eyes and locked onto the eyebrows or nose or something.

It depends on what you like. Some people like the dof very shallow, ie ... sharp eyes, but out of focus nose and hair - I don't like that so much. So for me, f4 is nice - but others may disagree.

Also, keep in mind - the farther away you get, the more dof you gain at the same aperature - so it depends on how close you are. If you prety far away, shoot at 1.8 - the bokeh will rock and perhaps you'll get everything you want in focus.

You learn as you go :)
