Over at sportsshooter.com they have an article "100 Things completely right about our job".

Now, while the vast majority of us here don't work full time as photographers or photojournalists, it's on a good majority of our wishlists to have as a career at some point. I know it's at the top of mine.

Anyways, I'd like to know what people find so enjoyable about making photographs.

Some of mine:
- Managing to get up on time (or off of work in time) to catch the golden hour
- Making good use of the golden hour (and still thinking that after seeing the pics at full res!)
- Capturing the moment you meant to
- Having someone ask you for a print
- Being asked to take someone's picture
- Taking anyone's picture
- Someone asking if they can see what you've taken on your camera
- Getting a little kid to not fear the camera
- Having that same kid take a picture of you
- That kid giggling with joy

Shooting my daughter in a way that provides a permanent keepsake, doing it again with my other daughter, sending prints to my Dad, and getting a call from my grandfather asking for his own prints.

Making people laugh or say "wow."

Making people think.

Learning that I am not a photographer and learning to be a better photographer within this community.

-- Capturing images that will bring out an emotion in the future when I am looking back.
-- Getting out of my comfort zones a little more each day to learn something new.
-- Capturing life as I see it.
-- And pissing off voters when I complain about their lack of typing skills:P click, click, click

maybe I'm a rock...actually there is a good chance of that...but I don't understand #53. 1-111-111-1111 Must be a sport shooter thing. Maybe a pager code saying "GET HERE NOW!"

Exploring the world around me, seeing areas of my city and province that I probably would not have noticed had I not been taking photos.

Knowing you have a limited audience but finding it.

Doing what I love.

Ah yes, isn't that sweet? A favorite on a shot with a low average score is a particularly joyful event. :)

If I behave, they let me carry their tripod.

ahhh, tripping over your own self, running back and forth to get a self portrait - which meant using lights and tripod, timer and fingers crossed! That was a fun day at my house!

Getting high without using drugs.

To me the best thing about being a photographer is going out somewhere shooting, not doing very well, being disappointed and angry, then get back to your comp upload and find a complete diamond among the rough that you never even noticed as you were instinctively clicking away.

The best part about being a photographer is being
able to honestly appreciate your own work and not
give a damn about what picture snobs think about it.
"This line is crooked. That color is distracting. Lighting is
all wrong" etc.

Especially those snobs who feel they're so much
better than the rest and spit out their ones, twos
and threes in photography contests.

The best part about being a photographer is being able to take criticism and apply it to your work, in turn making you a better photographer.
