I have a feeling we're going to be spending a lot of time voting next week! I'll bet we're close to 300 submissions come Sunday night.

Now let's see... should we bet on how many flowers, bee's, hummingbirds..... that we'll have? :-)

I think that's great. I have Monday off since it's a Civic Holiday (Rememberance Day) in Canada. I really like this challenge. It really made me hone my macro skills and try new stuff.
I'm sure we'll see alot of flowers, bugs, etc. but that's OK. I won't automatically rate a picture down just because it is 'cliche'.
Good luck to everyone.

i enjoyed voting on Superstitions.

126 entries. Nice and easy, ahhhh...

took me back to the good old days of DP challenge when that was considered a lot of entries.

LOL

I won't be marking down because of cliche' either. I've been looking at a lot of macro shots this week and there are some really great shots of bugs and flowers out on the internet.

I too used some new tips and techniques to achieve a good shot (IMHO).

Good Luck!

I love bugs! Too bad we already have snow on the ground up here in cold cold Eastern Canada. This is my favourite bug macro shot ever. It took this grass hopper on the fly last summer.

Since when is it a holiday for Rememberance day? We've always had school and businesses have always been open....... Is it government offices and such that close?

Absolutely. Schools and government close on Rememberance Day. So do stores and the Bank where I work. Maybe it's only in New Brunswick, but I doubt it. It's a national holiday. I think it's Veterans day in the States.

I personnally like a lot of submissions. I have a tendancy to check this site every 2 hours or so just to see how many more submissions there are and if there's been any forum activity.
Now, it could also be the fact that I'm a college student with nothing else to do at odd hours of the night. That could definately be it too.
But the more submissions there are, the longer it takes me to vote, and then maybe I get to Thursday before I'm complusively reloading for no reason.

Remembrance Day is definitely a holiday here in British Columbia.

I have had a heck of a time getting any good macro shots, but I am enjoying the learning of it.

I am close to 300 shots for the Macro submission.
I liked my very first shot the best, did 250 on other subjects that turned out boring or bad, did a reshoot of the first one and selected the best out of 25. :-)

Gotta love digital! I took almost 250 shots too. Finally narrowed down to two... I'm still waffleing between them as to which one I should submit...... Guess I have until Sunday to figure it out.

Wow, color and texture are great.

Here's the only bug I got this summer. He had been perfectly still but as soon as I got focused he started moving! lol

Nice shot. Where are you from. Looks like a "stick bug" or something.

But what do we do for photographic greatness since the Bourgeoisie have decreed NO flowers, NO bugs, and, God forbid, any ordinary or tiresome subjects!!
Slash your wrists people, you must bleed for votes.
And do not, repeat, do not indulge yourself with anything remotely resembling humor in your photographs.
However, do have fun.

They did? The b*st*rds! Tell me who they are so I can sort 'em out.
Luckily the folks in this forum (and this thread) seem to think flowers/cliches are okay.

I'm in mid Missouri. I've always known it as a WalkingStick. And truly, this is the first one I've seen in a very long time. thanks

that's cool, aelith!

did u try cropping closer to him so that he blows up bigger?

just curious if that would work : )
11/09/2002 06:53:11 PM · #22
Well I could crop it, but I can't make it bigger because it's already wallpaper size now. Not without adding pixels, I think. I didn't crop it because I liked the subtle color of the light on the granite and the oppossing diagonal where the monument changes grades. Still had negitive space on my mind at that time too. Hmmm I'll play around with it.
